I've said repeatedly last year that the Sedins are a 5v5 liability and need to retire. I may not love the contracts of the guys signed, but there's no arguing that they're decent players. Don't you remember my own posts back in June suggesting that Benning signs Roussel and Schaller? Beagle can play a Malhotra type role here.

And I've also said repeatedly that I believe Pettersson is talented enough to go straight to the NHL and skip the AHL.

The defense is still an issue and Markstrom is still a questionable starter, but the forward group got deeper and faster. Team defense should improve with guys like Beagle added, plus hopefully 1 of Tanev/Gudbranson can stay healthy. MDZ has been in the gym all summer and is in a contract year, I think he'll be motivated and at least be a decent 4/5 dman.

He'll be good organizational depth when injuries hit and will start the season in Utica. He can actually put up points in the AHL so having him help out the rookies down there isn't a bad thing at all.

I am hoping JB extends him for 8 @800 K and gets 50 more just like him so we can end up with 250 goals from our forwards over the next 5 years. Just in case we get hit with the recapture

All of this early 2019 draft lottery talk is really annoying to me.

1) This team will be faster and bigger this year

2) Green will adjust after his first season as a NHL HC

3) I doubt the team will get hit as hard by injuries this year

4) Sedins were addition by subtraction as they were on their last legs.

5) Added Pettersson, Roussel, Beagle and Schaller up front.

6) Virtanen, Horvat, Boeser, Pouliot, Granlund, Leipsic, Goldobin, Stecher, Hutton, Gaudette, etc will all be a 1 year older.

7) Pettersson is an early calder favourite, Juolevi, Gaudette and maybe Demko should join the big club at some point this season.


Time for us fans to show this team some damn respect, already looking at top 5 picks next year is a slap in the face to them.

How is this team worse than last year? They're deeper and will likely be healthier.

Lol the only team that gets more flack on these boards is Edmonton, and maybe montreal. How many "hotstoves" have been posted with the canucks being in the bottom 3 of literally every poll or question, with other fans generally adding to fuel to the fire. I dont put much attention to them, as they dont really matter, but its definitely a common theme amongst who fans think are the worst team/organization in the league right now.

The dominant team days are easily forgotten. Eg TBL have a great team but struggle to fill the seats. They sucked & won Stamkos. Make the PO’s one year & not the next & get Hedman. Thats fluke luck. We simply don’t appreciate the good times enough & rather be poor sports at a the drop of the hat. Sure winning a cup is the pinnacle but at the cost of ignoring everything else nah. The Jets are deep in talent & took years to get where they are & without top 3 picks. Lucked out on Laine but didn’t tank to do that.

We still have a bottom level roster until proven otherwise. There's all kinds of room for regression, just as there is room for growth. I think we'll be picking top 5, and i'm more optimistic about the team's future than I have been for a long time. I don't think it's disrespectful to the current team to project a poor finish. People are still picking the Cleveland Browns to be bad but their future looks awfully bright.

Its such a pom pom/koolaid mentality to think that being realistic on these boards is considered being disrespectful to the team based off their statistics of the last 5 years. Call them out, want and demand and hope for better results, and apparently you are pessimistic wiener lol. I expect them to be better than last year, but i also expect the bottom 10 teams outside montreal/Detroit/edmonton to be better as well.
