The league is about scoring, even 4th liners have to score. Brendan Gaunce has 12 points in 114 games. Unless a miracle happens and Gaunce is using Tanev's shooting coach or as usual Van has about 20 injuries before the start of the season. I really see no scenario that doesn't involve Gaunce going on waivers. Beagle is 30 something years old and mainly plays defence. He had 22 points last season. - manvanfan
So when Beagle was a rookie/young player scoring didn’t matter? How many of Beagles 22 points were primary points last year? You think his 7 goals will be difficult for the Caps to replace? He isn’t prolific by 4th line standards and as I said, I think he will actually be playing 3rd line minutes, so even worse. |

Usually I am just an idiot, but today I thought I should be a bit more serious while having discussions on the hockeybuzz...plus I have been daydrinking😁 - Reubenkincade

I think analytics paints a picture that just isn't there. - manvanfan
I am not saying they are be all end all just that portions of some analytics are useful.
It is like plus minus as a stat, sometimes they don't look at poor line changes, which leads to a goal, or the blown/missed coverage by an indivdual.
I have been following stats for over 40 years and find they are all subjective, but can also be useful. |

Probably some kid out of the OHL.
This is their weakest prospect pool in a long time.

Oh yeah, that's right, it was Fedorov... though Shirokov is the same, both entitled useless Russians that weren't good enough for the NHL. - DariusKnight
You know that being Russian has nothing to do with that right? The ratio is probably 100:1 for useless entitled Canadians who wash out of pro hockey... |

Funny how many Russians are goal sucks & how few do the dirty work. More Datsyuk’s but for every one of him there is 100 passengers.

I’ll be honest with you here, you don’t know poop from a hole in the ground. Have you been to Russia, do you know how hard the people there have to work to get where they are? It isn’t about being Russian, or Canadian or Swedish, it’s about the individuals. There are way more Canadian kids involved in every level of youth and up hockey, and only the very best of them get a sniff of professional hockey, and then only the best of the best have careers in the NHL. For every Horvat there are 100 Shinkaruks. It has nothing to do with birth certificates. |

Once I latch onto something it’s tough to get me off. Thank goodness for Beagle or I’d still be going on about Sutter... |

Your setup is very similar to what I expect to see, but I could see a different route.
I see them going back to some of the old line combos. It's been said by management many time EP will start on the wing. As bad as Gagner is I see that being the second line and getting a lot of o-zone starts, at least until they have to shake things up. It's a tanky lineup no matter how you slice it.

I've watched him play and he's really average.
My question was poorly worded. I know why he's not very good but I don't understand how the nerds think that the CF stat is somehow accurate as to what actually happens on ice. I mean Zone starts are a good stat but Corsi really tells you nothing that happens in the game. - manvanfan

Utica seems to be getting awfully bloated with career AHL ers . Wonder if this is going to bump some prospects down the way of Kalamazoo. |
