He's the best puck tipper since Vanek, but he's not better at it than Vanek. His shot isn't nearly as good as Vanek's. He had 7 straight seasons of 25 goals, and 8 in a row with at least 20 goals, including a 38 game shortened campaign

Vanek also had more points in 2017-2018 at age 34. He has a good long way to go before he's the offensive player vanek was/is.

There's a lot of hyperbole flying around here. Just because I don't want a long term deal yet doesn't mean I think he sucks.

Sam also doesn't have that nasty clapper

- jcragcrumple

All valid points, and even though I believe there is some debate on whether Sam is better
in front of the net than Vanek, I wasn't comparing Sam to Vanek as an overall player. I didn't think my post contained any hyperbole, it was just a single skill, that's valuable to all teams.

I've seen many rational, well thought out posts by some pretty intelligent sounding people, and I thought my post was rational, and at least semi well thought out lol. My point was, from what I've seen as a lurker over the years, it's that when people start to get on the wrong side of healthy debates, they tend to either get personal by taking unfounded pot shots at the player we are debating, or the poster they are losing the debate to. It's petty, and as an "outsider" looking in, it has a bad look to it.

Oh for sure. Seedy just nailed the entirety of the site with that one quip, it was nothing against what you said. Gold, Jerry, gold

My favorite thing, or one of them, is people who rarely post, or post there opinions, calling other people out for there’s being wrong or stupid.

It’s easy to never be wrong when you don’t say anything in the first place

Also, nothing wrong with being wrong.

What’s wrong - and I’m pretty sure what joe is saying - is sticking with a prediction that’s gone wrong, and making unreasonable arguments to support that position long after it’s gone wrong.

I was wrong on Lehner and Weber. I thought Hodgson was gonna be good. I hoped we were gonna have better records with the recent rosters. I thought “stamkos” has eight letters. Early on, I thought Ion was coherent but had fat thumbs. On all these items, I was wrong.

I still think Vanek was better in front of the net. Better at tipping the puck, and at least as good at screening.

This isn't against you, but Vanek is the Rodney Dangerfield of Sabres; he never gets any respect. I think it's because Ruff made him the whipping boy, so the fans piled on as well. People called him soft, but he stood in front of the net taking a beating. Hell, you can watch his 2017-18 goals and he's still doing that. All the dude did was score, but because he didn't punch people in the face, or hit really, he wasn't appreciated by the fans. Well that, and his contract

Vanek was deceptively fast with a stride that looked effortless. He wasn’t a great defender. He didn’t fight or hit. He didn’t block shots. After Briere and Drury left, Darcy defended the offer sheet with Big money.

That’s a bad recipe in Buffalo.

When it came time for him to be strongest he plunked it in a creek.

But he had to play great to get to that opportunity.

Edit: looks like a Spaniard and a brit went 6 under also.

I was kind of hoping he'd blow out speakers all across America when he did that, he came very close to smashing the mic tee-side with that wild swing after he shanked it.

He didn't put it in the creek. And he rolled the rock today after fighting to hit fairways.

3 major wins in his last 6 (50%), missed the Masters in April. He joins 4 other golfers to win the US Open and PGA in the same year (Sarazen, Hogan, Nickalus, Woods). Dude is gonna be player of the year, good sh!t!

edit- hats off to Adam Scott. For a guy that honestly can't putt, he hung in there. Dude is the sh!t from tee to green.

Absolutely nothing wrong with it. I’ve been wrong plenty.

My point is directed at the people who love to bash opinions, yet provide none of their own.

Indeed, joevthree, that was not a shot at you.....at all.
Post more, please. We need more reasonable opinions here.

Ya he played great considering he couldn’t hit a fairway today. When he was in the fairway he just had it dialed in. He was stuffing in close.

Majors and all tourneys are just so much better when tiger is in the hunt.

If we could trade Reinhart for a vanek clone at the same age we should be making that trade every time.

Vanek was very very good. Unfortunately he took the brunt of the team never being able to replicate the drury/briere years

Not sure if this is the 2nd of a couple shots at me, and I wouldn't be offended if they were, because I agree with your statement. I would only add that if you want to see more opinions from the type of people that you were referring to in those two posts, I would say it has to start sometime, and perhaps this was my time? Furthermore, I was also referring to yourself, as well as some others, as being the source of many thought out and well presented positions on various topics of debate I've had the pleasure of reading over the years (or I wouldn't keep coming back, lol.) Because it can be done without the senseless and personal cheap shots that accompany so many other posts I have seen.
