I think what some are concerned about, well at least me, lol, is that if your 3rd line wingers end up being Lindblom and Simmonds, a creative playmaker would be the kind of center you’d want between them. I’m not sure that Laughton is that guy. - BiggE
This is my feeling. Kind of why I wouldn't mind reaching out to a winger like Rick Nash if he still wants to play. He would help that line then with carrying the puck more. |

Surprising sbisa is still on the market. Seemed like a perfectly capable top 6 dman in the playoffs to me. RH stick - Just5
Soon as a team needs a winger he'll be scooped up. |

Could also be a way of saying he is still part of the plans in case maybe another team has interest for a trade so not to say he will be given away fro free?
I think more so though it is trying to through some good vibes out for a players confidence. - J35Bacher
He's definitely trying to pump Weal's tires.
And I'd venture a guess and say that, after last season, there is little or no trade market for Jordan Weal. |

Matt Martin got traded. There's a market for everyone. Just might not be a good market. |

Its an interesting case. I wouldn't be averse to bringing him in for a look. But if he wants some crazy cap number or years I would wish him well and keep looking within. |

He did but he didn't. Hakstol showed when a player is ready for more he would make the change. Konecny. Patrick. When those guys showed they were ready to be counted on for more Hakstol gave them more.
While Laughton has had spurts, he just hasn't shown enough continually in my opinion. If he had I think they would ave had no problem moving Filppula down the lineup.
I think they moved him to wing in hopes to unlock more. My worry is does Laughton provide enough play making as a center. Even in the 3rd line role. Right now the 3rd line would look something like Raffl/Lindblom - Laughton - Simmonds. To me that seems like a dump and chase line. Not a line that will have a lot of creativity. - J35Bacher
tough because the Flyers were a top heavy team. I think one of Hak's flaws is his fast hook with younger guys. Thinking about the whole season I wouldnt say Hak gave Laughton a solid chance at 3C, not much at all actually. I wouldn't mind him on the wing, I like his skating, shot and size. |

Any free agent left on the market would depend on term and cap. |

I never was a big fan on Nash. I don't think he's bad, but I think he gets by on his big Columbus days more than anything he's done recently. Again, he's still good, just not as good as his name makes him seem. |

But as a 3rd line winger i think it works. If I needed to fill a top 6 role I probably wouldn't bother.

I know a lot of people here aren't fans of fancy stats, but laughton had awesome underlying numbers last year. He was just a bit unlucky (his PDO was by far the lowest on the flyers) and he never really got skilled wingers and even with raffl and leier and whoever else his underlying numbers were good. Also when he was the 3c for a stretch iftgames the flyers went 10-1-1 which I know is a small sample size but I truly think he can handle it. I see no reason that he can't pot 15 goals and get 20 or so assists playing with Lindblom and Simmer |

Frost is going to be a good one, but I am glad to see that maybe we can start to tamp down on the expectations for the upcoming season in terms of him playing 3C.
I firmly believe Scott Laughton is ready to challenge for the job. - MBFlyerfan
I think the need for another center is a little over blown. You all know my feelings on Giroux if we can’t find a suitable center to fill the void in the bottom nine but I’m fine with Giroux staying at wing.
I’ve felt like we needed a scoring winger on the left side all last season. We filled that hole. This coming season should be a good season. |

Do you just gloss over the line i said it is most likely a long shot?
- J35Bacher
Nope, focused on the meat of the discussion.
I understand he needs to do more then produce. He would need to almost have dominate performances and that might not be enough.
The main point is people are bullish on him and Vorobyev because Laughton hasn't done enough. If Laughton had shown that he is ready for that 3rd line center role I think people would be more patient on development for a guy like Frost.
But you also have to look around the league. Fair or not teams are bringing up guys sooner and sooner. And while you can't worry about what other teams do..fans are allowed to look and say why can't my team...especially when the player fits a clear needed. - J35Bacher
I think one shouldn't have anything to do with another. If Frost plays well in the pre season, he is also going to have to convince Hextall that he hold up in the grind of an 82 game NHL season and not hit a wall. Frost and Vorobyev haven't done anything so Laughton has the head start.

yeah always a long shot...
Laughton, I think finally in the last 2 years the Flyers got it right with his development. I think he deserved a bigger shot last season, FLIP blocked him and that was a mistake by HAK. For a while Laughton was the only bottom 9 forward in the prospect ranks, I think that put too much focus on him. Laughton was one of the few to have a good playoff, give him a shot unless someone blows the doors off in camp. - wcorvette
Fillpula was the better player for the role the majority of the season.

I think he's cool with walking away unless someone really makes it worth it.
Pure speculation. |

I initially dismissed the "Weal as 3C" talk as well, then I did some reading. Hexy was part of the staff that drafted Weal. He had played mostly center up to that point. Also played center in AHL where he had some nice years. He has good speed, can create, and also can bury his chances. If he proves he is up to it and earns the spot in camp, I would be okay with Lindblom, Weal, Simmer as the 3rd line. Raffl, Laughton, Lehtera/NAK as the 4th line.
OTOH, Hexy also needs to talk Weal up as part of the plan in case he needs to shop him. Also helps his confidence. I can't wait for camp to start. |

But what about those long-standing rivalries, like Pittsburgh vs. Edmonton and Vegas vs. Colorado? Are we simply going to dismiss the rivalry aspect of them? |

Morgan Frost will make the team. He will score 50 goals in his first 38 games, thus breaking a record no one thought could be broken. ...........
and what is the deal with the words getting cut off and starting on the next line? |
