It's not even slightly accurate to say there is nothing to suggest Toews can reach 25 goals. I mean, his prorated goal totals for the last two seasons were 24 and 22 respectfully, and that's with sh% that is low for the quality of shot. If he even corrects 2% from last season, he pots 25 right there; if he correct to his average (including the low end of the last two seasons), that puts him at 30. This is pretty in-line with his individual expected goals from the last two seasons, which typically hover around 25-26. So there is evidence that it's possible, just have to play the games to really determine if it'll happen.
Honestly, I think 25 is more likely because gradual but not full regression on sh% is more likely. A lot of older players who have rebound years happen in the 4-6% range but I don't think Toews will have the assist rate support to correct that much unless Kane is with him the whole time or someone like Sikura is just a boss. So yeah, imo Toews' sh% will increase but his shot totals will come down a bit, which will have him a bit higher but not necessarily his highest in goal production. - L_B_R
I am with you on this LBR! While your info is solid both on metrics and thought process mine is on pure optics and gut. Hossa did not make Toews; if anyone made made one another it would Toews making Hossa, barely. I 'll say this again and again, it is my contention that Toews issues are injury-related (Orpik hit(s)) because he has not been the same player since, still good but not great. When it said and done, I do think he bounces back to 25-30 goal year!

Lots of talent on display over the weekend, and you are correct that the top 15 or 20 when you include those that didn't make the tourney will be all NHL'ers. Incredible speed and puck handling in the Bronze and Gold medal games.
The Hawks picking a goalie in the first round? Yea I guess anything is possible, I'm not sure how many 5'10" 170lb puck handling defensemen a team needs before addressing the holes at #1LW and #2C or #1C if Toews moves down to #2C.
Yea they need a goalie, but its 4 or 5 years from draft to NHL production. Why waste a 1st rounder? especially with so many holes to be filled easier and sooner. Maybe a late 1st rounder, but remember how well Boston did with Subban's brother, when so many other players were available a few years back. Zack Furcale was another that went high in the 2nd round, where is he now? Rick Di Pietro would be another.( injuries ended his career) - weakglovehand
100% agreed! Unless you have a "generational" goalie coming out and you have the rights, you get him. Otherwise fill other major voids, hopefully a top pair D man, and a center for either 1C or 2C. You can get goalie later rounds or even undrafted free-agents. Goalies do not pan out like skaters in the scouting and draft process.

Interesting, regarding some of the names on the total goal list, probably some of those guys don’t even make the team out of camp. Just curious with all the Panerin talk, what would be a true, legit, offer to the Columbus blue jackets to reacquire him ?Leaving aside the Black Hawk Kool-Aid, because you know they’re not gonna just take garbage back for him.Does Stan have enough in the tank to get it done now, or do they just have to wait till next summer and get into the bidding war?
I have to think that Alex DeBrincat or Nick Schmaltz would probably have to be part of that package going back the other way |

Breaking:
Toews not named to NHL Network's Top 20 Centers.
Keith and Seabrook not named to NHL Network's Top 20 D

Actually Keith not even on the top 25, they had the bubble.
Me myself, I don't think Keith was great last year, but he's being compared to his peak, not everyone else.
I'm taking Keith over Matt Dumba (bubble list) all day every day. |

Maybe if he could figure out how to hit the net with his shot on the rare occasion he gets a shot through instead of off the shinpads . . . he would have made the list |

your are kidding right? Keith had 2pp goals and -29 last season and has gotten worse every year since we won the Stanley cup. Dumba did 10 11 and 14G 36A last year and was a + 15. they did match up in one area they both had 2 PP Goals.

Maybe. At least Keith won another Cup, a CS to boot and waited til he was 34 to start trailing off unlike a certain Islander who is also conspicuously absent from the list. |

You never know. check the youtubes on the little kahuna, Dominik Kahun. He is not Krueger type, maybe only in size. He has tons of speed and playmaking ability. Also has bonus in his contract, if he puts up points ... so I think it's just a matter of how soon can he adapt. Kahun recieved high praise from Kane on his play at the world tournament |

Awfully ambitious for Saad. He's only passed the 25 goal mark once in his career and it wasn't in a Blackhawks uniform. With declining numbers the past two seasons it isn't out of the realm of possibility but not likely. - jjtoepfer
Saad is shooting more than earlier in his career. If he puts up 237 shots again, most in a season to date, he scored 31 with CLB on 231 shots, and gets his shot % up from the 7.6% of last yr he should get near 30.

Well, I am officially finished with Hlinka Gretzky tourney and I can confidently say teams selecting in the top 15 next April don't have to worry about the player they select not making an impact in some way on their roster.
And the top five or six, well are really exciting I impact kids.
Sure, Hughes is in a class by himself, but the next tier is pretty special in it's own right as a long term high end valued group, and the the guys into the mid round are really high end too.
(Not as many defenders there that have stepped into that first couple tiers except the big Swede, and , but a whole lot more promising ones we will Strat to get better reads on as they seasons begin.)
I have decided to throw up seven rounds of players NOW, for 2019, but don't start calling me on the ranks after the first two.
I am very confident I have the best tom 30 anywhere you can find one, so let them copy away.
I also started a 2020 mock draft but don't hold me past the top three kids, ok?
and you can squarely place me on the side that the #1 2020 pick, Alexis , is going to be a better player bigger star that jack Hughes. He's just so strong fluid and unhesitatingly insightful with his motions after reading things. He's good in all phases, and his frame gives back as much push as they attempt to give him. He is simply a future star.
Anyway, the reason, I posted was I gave the the Blackhawks Goalie Spencer Knight with their first rounder instead of a centre or big man forward, because he is in the categories of Gibson and Tampa's Andrei Vasilevskiy.
So go look at the ranks on DraftSite...I will start filling in the player strengths as time goes by.... - wiz1901
Nice work, Wiz!! So much talent at the Hlinka tournament but still in my mind is 6ft 5in US Dman Cade Webber. Kid's skating impressed me more each shift (was the Dman chosen to defend a 5 on 3 against). No he doesn't have big offensive upside but at that size with those feet, showed IQ too, he looks like a 2nd/3rd rotation NHLer to me.
At 5ft 6in Caufield's size will hurt him but Clayton Keller type skill?
IMO 5ft 10in Josh Groll was the fastest of the tournament, and he hit people. #10 for FIN was in that class too.
Hawks use a 1st on ANY goalie? With the current management in place?
Kaako 4th? Interesting, reading where he's a lock for 2nd overall.
Vasily Podkolzin (wore #19?) looked much much bigger than the 6ft 180 he's listed at everywhere. Thick tallish kid.

Debrincat has 30 minimum I say, but hey what do I know? - BlackhawkMike
For me simply amazing the kid popped 28 on 181 shots, skating all over the lineup, 2:00 of PP time, under 15:00 per game as a rookie. ..... Slotted properly and regularly with more PP time and overall TOI who knows what the kid can do. |

With Dmen prospects down a good bit for the 2019 draft I can more understand the Hawks going D with their first two picks this yr. But we all know the "current" managerial staff's love of smallish skill/speed on the backend, so who knows where they go in the 1st rd next yr.
Would love to add centers to the organIzation and Wiz has 10 going in the 1st rd. The draft going to be deep in C's offering a solid one to the Hawks in the 1st? https://www.draftsite.com/nhl/mock-draft/2019/ |
