Could you imagine the reaction now if that happened with the advent of social media and current rules? - airjan23
It would then be seen and heard around the entire world for weeks nonstop.
Back then, in the days prior to Sports Talk Radio shows, it caused the routine hockey joke by tv news network sportscasters in that, "you go to watch a hockey game, and a boxing match breaks out instead".
My dad admitted the only reason he got cable was to watch the games back then. Also refused to pay for Sportsnet so i remember not being able to watch some of the games - MeltingPlastic
My area wasn't wired for cable when I resided elsewhere back then. When possible, a hockey buddy, provided we did not have a hockey game to play ourselves, would invite me to watch their home games at his house where his parents had subscribed to cable being available.
Jimbo for one, will even assure you of those Bill Chadwick words he spoke routinely as Rangers tv commentator when Barry Beck had the puck on his stick, in case you are in denial of my words.
Beck had a very hard slap shot equivalent to the best of today's players using the lightest weight ever sticks in contrary. However, he was hesitant to use it, nor did so enough when in position to, or skating down along the boards with the puck in the offensive zone.
"SHOOT THE PUCK BARRY, SHOOT THE PUCK", weren't only Chadwick's words as tv commentator back then, but also his repeated words made directly daily during the season right to Barry himself at practices, & whenever with him in person otherwise. - RangerSaver
that brawl was so freaking crazy, really actually frightening at points
all Beck's fault too
one time, the Rangers were the bullies - jimbro83
Kinda comical seeing the players back then. Look at the protection Lessard had as a goalie! Flimsy, soft padding! If the league wants to increase goal scoring, reduce the ridiculous padding that goalies wear now.
The best nugget of info from that brawl is this: The reason Fotiu was a healthy scratch? He was serving an eight-game suspension for climbing into the stands to fight with fans.
