Karlsson's next contract is going to be among the most regrettable in the league. This is even more true if he runs into a coach that forces him to be accountable in his own end. It is even more true on a good team where is offense is not needed because the forward corps doesn't completely suck.

Sure, he would be great except for the cost to acquire him and the opportunity cost to pay him for the next 8 years and the fact that he has a ton of miles on him already considering the injuries, and that he will not in any way make the Leafs better defensively.

They don't need more offense at the expense of any sort of concept of defensive responsibility. They have had plenty of that over the years.
