Agreed. He moved pretty well, had good size, and used it pretty well. He didn't thump people, but he was good in puck battles and could move the puck up ice. Therien wasn't just some donkey out there.

I think he’s confusing Therien at the end of his career with Therien in his prime. At the end, he had lost a step and was pretty bad. In his prime, he was solid. Was he a legit top pair guy? No, not really but he was what they had to work with. However he was a solid top 4 guy who excelled in the PK. To put him on a list of the worst Flyers of all time is simply asinine.

esp considering how many other players could be on that suck list. Cripes, half the team Clarke put together the season where Holmgren could qualify

EDIT: Mike York

Mike York absolutely made my Mt. Suckmore list.

Hated that guy as a Ranger and hated him when he sucked here.

People forget that, only until very recently, Chris Therien was the last homegrown defenseman that the Flyers had for a very long time.

Just on D, off the top of my head: Rick Lapoint, Willie Huber, Bill Root, Kerry Huffman, Yves Racine, Karl Dykhuis, Ryan Parent, Luke Schenn, Pavel Kubina, Brandon Manning and Radko Gudas are all much worse players than Therien was in his prime.

He was even more fortunate to play in an era where holding and hooking, and in the playoffs, mugging, were basically legal, lol.

I hated Bundy as a player. The ONLY guy he played well against was Jagr...inexplicably. But for the most part, he was nothing more than a pylon. He couldn't skate, didn't have much of a shot, barely hit anyone....granted, didn't take many penalties. But the guy was a TURNSTILE!

...But Bundy the color analyst? Love the guy.

Fine...you want me to replace Bundy? I raise you Adam Hall.

Chris played well against many teams and many players. As for his skating, being a good-skating big guy was what got him to the NHL in the first place. He made the NHL All-Rookie team, and this was two seasons before he was paired with Desjardins . He went on to play the most games as a Flyer of any D-man in franchise history, which would not have happened if he remotely matched your description.

I keep seeing hockey content providers with top 20 defenseman lists and Gostisbehere is consistently ranked above Provorov and a few times Provorov doesn't even crack the NHL's top 20 dmen lists.

Yeah he was also super effective when playing against Jagr - a Jagr in his prime not the 40 year old we've seen over the past 4 seasons.

Provorov doesn't have enough time to make the lists yet. In a year or two he'll probably be in the top 5 of those lists if his career continues on it's trend.

I used to love watching the Jagr train to the penalty box every time Therien hit him with a good hard hit. Jagr was good for 6 penalty minutes in most games against Therien.

Really, a lot of the 06/07 team. They had a decent on-paper team, but they were terrible outside of the top line.

Mike York
Randy Robitaille
Kyle Clader
Dmitry Afanasenkov
Alexei $hitnik
Ryan Potulny
Todd Fedoruk
Derian Hatcher
Petr Nedved
Denis Gauthier
Frederick Meyer IV
Mike Rathje (sparingly, thank god)

You could do a decent Suckmore of York, Calder, $hitnik, and Rathje, and that even leaves off Nedved and Gauthier.

Most "best" lists are pointless, they are more who's hot now lists. Remember when Aaron Ekblad was proclaimed "one of the top defensemen" in the league only after his rookie year?

Lists are based off of zero standards or rules, just who is trending in the media and tagged with what-ifs. Philadelphia is not Canadian media friendly IMO, otherwise people would of figured out the Broad Street Bully hockey as been long gone for decades.

P.S. Ghost is more popular because his stats pop more and has more fancy to his game.

I remember playing a tournament up in Quebec in my teens, expensive as poop too, and there was this one player I can not remember his name...something Frenchy. Kid was good, very good stickwork. I will always remember this one play he made. He came out of the D-Zone and someone passed the puck up to him, he went and beat a couple players then made a sweet drag move around one of the dmen. All alone on the goalie and smacks the post. All I heard from this kid for the rest of the game and after is how he destroyed us and made us look foolish, yet he never scored. I ended up with a rebound goal, a terrible ugly goal, and I believe we won.

Well some people don't judge hockey players on what they do, it's all about how they look doing it...even if you miss the net.

In 2012 ECQF Game 3 vs. the Penguins, do you think Nolan Patrick would have turned Crosby down after the Hartnell/Adams fight like (unnamed Flyers rookie at the time) did?

Look how many people think Toews sucks and has always sucked, but he has some Cups that makes a difference.

I would take Toews on my team...even at that yucky 10.5M cap hit.

All right, I'll say it. 'Cause Truman was too much of a wussy wimp to let MacArthur go in there and blow out those commie bastards.
