I wonder if JB will offer Seguin 10 mil plus next summer. Knows him, he's really young for a UFA and slots into the first line. I could kind of see it, but only if they are the highest bidders.

Nope heard on HockeyInsiders today the Nucks are looking at Karlsson...have some nice pieces to offer Ottawa such as Boeser-Pettersson and Hughes...

They actually printed that...

I saw Krug brought up last night and everyone posting were dead against making a trade.

So what's it going to be same sh!t "D" or trade for better "D".

I’d like to run this by you it will probably be longish...

Starting at our D has been mediocre for many many years. Propped up by scoring upfront & Luongo in net til now. In getting EG i believe JB was looking for top 4 toughness that was lacking.

Seeing that Edler was getting longer in the tooth & was the main big hitter. In Tanev his age meant we still had a solid top 4 Dman for more years to come. We had squat D prospects in the system & nothing & i mean nothing in the way of offence from D.

Thx to MG & previous GM’s. Now we arrive at today. OJ was the beginning of remaking the D. At the time i liked Sergachev & McAvoy went later on. I can live with OJ it was a step in the right direction. Our draft positions didn’t allow much in the way of picking D if going against BPA.

Enter Hughes who fills the largest need we’ve had for decades. These 2nds JB has traded is where luck picking D can be where many here wished he kept & though its still luck it is a valid point that trading them probably hurt us. Given our lack of D prospects for so very long & include the injuries putting young D in the spotlight & the ever changing pairings has only exacerbated the problem & we rail on about the Huttons etc as low hanging fruit.

It still all comes down to draft & develop especially with the D. Whether we rushed them or had little choice its what has us in this mess. The solution in IMO starts with Hughes when he arrives but in the meantime its team D that will shelter our D while Hutton & Stecher etc find their offence if its even there. The draftists though i hate to say it are right about more picks are needed. By that its 2nds & maybe 3rds. Who & how its done is difficult with what JB had & has to work with for trades.

We all can knock JB or the past but it was a mess & it was never going to be easy. Look at the Flyers who used many top picks drafting D. Sure they have a nice stable but its not earth shattering either. We need Highes to be what all think he will become. We also want Rathbone to be a hidden gem. Those 2 can add the offence we have lacked for so long idk if we ever had it. We certainly never drafted any of it. In trades we’ve gotten Lumme Salo Jobi Erhoff & i don’t recall any home growns. D prospects have an abyss since we joined the league.

This upcoming season should be rock bottom. Nothing but up from there...depending on how badly Benning/Aquilini f*ck it up.

It would be pretty sweet if we bottomed out this year and lucked into the lottery the year after.

On another tangent time lol

The 1st year of TL JB & WD.
The success on their plan to retool I suspect was what FA wanted & expected. We know the folly in that & even us armchair GM’s saw it was unsustainable given contracts & age of players & squat for prospects. It all began with the ‘AGE GAP’. In later comes LE & miscast & WD still insisting on rolling 4 lines he never had the talent for. Great in theory but doomed. Bye bye WD & good riddance. Brings us to today where TG actually has a decent 4 lines to roll out but we lack top 6 scoring. We do have some prospects & hope to help us there but its going to take 2-3yrs to fully entrench itself.
We are younger & faster but only in the early stages to get it back on the rails.

Maybe so. I saw last year as rock bottom & this year to be similar but we will see more growth & more entertainment. I doubt it translates into more wins or gains in the standings but we all don’t care about that.

As for FA he has done his worst lol
As for JB he has settled in better. Some may still worry about him but i am not. His ass is on the line now that the old core is virtually all gone. With TG entering his 2nd season is where my focus lies. Can he teach & elevate the play of the kids? Thats my big question & it will decide me on what management is ACTUALLY doing & not the past pressers sending vague & highly speculative messages out to us.

I added a few spaces to make it easier to read.

All in all, there have been several WTF moments by every GM this club has had, and I agree about the inclusion of picks in trades that could have possibly, maybe, cross your fingers and don't step on a crack, that they could have drafted a usable defense man with. But really, they probably would have ended up with more Hutton Stecher like players... .

GM's take chances, win some and loose more, it is what it is.

Yup, the would be great.
My wife and I are talking about trying to make it to a game this season. She wants to see Don hurl a latte at someone in a Gaunce jersey.

On our potential line-up...

I’m fine with possible lines 1/3/4.
The 2nd scoring line is where competition is most fierce & a big logjam at that. Saying EP is the C helps if he can handle the responsibility & I’m not worried about his offence or how many points it turns into. Its the wingers or the overload of who they will be & the probable revolving door. Some suggest Brock plays with EP. Thats not a bad idea but i ask who can score & gel with Bo? Is that Goldy JV or LE? I’m undecided on any of those doing it but i can see some hope it works. Any of those 3 i don’t like with Sutter. Maybe LE. Goldy needs to be put in an offensive role to get the best out of him. JV is more north/south needing D to 1st pass his ass onto the rush. He also has to learn from Brock & unleash more shots. LE is a garbage goal type of scorers needing lots of o-zone possession.

Sutter needs good skating muckers that can finish when chances arise.

Our D has to simply head man pucks better.
Only Hutton & Stecher are capable to skate out of the D-zone but it ends there. Neither are much of a scoring threat nor jump into the play. None of our D are for that matter.

I have a different take on what I seen this year and last few months

At the draft table I seen decisions being made on the spot with no interference or influence from the owner. I seen JB and Bracket making decisions among themselves

I didn't see the owner step in and veto the UFA signings and trust me they were not sexy signings nor did they spell trying to make the playoffs. Although Benning and FA are getting the heat about trying to be a playoff team , these signing come from the request of the coach who wants to make his team harder to play against.

Lastly if my president came into my office after four years on the job and said he wants to now rebuild , I would have fired his ass too.

As I posted I see FA Benning Johnson and Brackett assembling a nice talented team for future years. Everyone seems to be on the right page IMO

Very few rumors ever come true. Same as the Fabro and Krug rumor . Probably very little truth to either but fun to talk about

Oh ya it's most likely some clickbait crap I just found it funny they would even print something so stupid.

With the asking price so high for Karlsson this article stated 'the Canucks have some great pieces to offer Ottawa such as Boeser-Pettersson-Hughes.

Give me a break this are our three best players for the foreseeable future.

Thats pretty much how it all goes down.
JB hasn’t made any major moves that squandered our future. Some will argue & cite the EG trade but McCann wasn’t much to give up IMO. The LE UFA signing was a freebee that backfired but it happens all around the league. It was ill-timed no doubt but something to move on from.

I never believed Sutter thought his role was any more than that. He didn’t make WD force him into what he was not. The fans do look at contracts & base it on that & are blinded to what he offers. He never was a me me player.
