the good qb's get knocked down and get back up
see peyton, elway and aikman
all qb's that were thrown to their wolves right away
either the qb has it like them, or he doesn't like all the first rd flops
first rd flops never thrive at their second team

They had Hall of Fame QBs, or pretty close ahead of them.
Edit: If Bledsoe doesn't get in he'll be robbed, I didn't realize how good his numbers are. He blows away Aikman and is better than total, but about on par with Young. |

Do we know the other guys wouldn't have been better if they had waited?
What if Kevin kolb didn't slip on the mat? Maybe Manuel would have been better |

1)
Those guys played in major conferences against good talent and knew how to read defenses
Plus, defenses today are WAY more complicated today
2)
Gannon, Testeverde & Young come to mind
More recently...
Alex Smith, Brees, Keenum
Brees obviously doesn’t really compare to what I’m talking about with Allen,
but the others all sort of do
All struggled in their youth & eventually became good QBs
If we had a team like Pitt or Seattle did,
then maybe we could play Allen right away and just not ask him to do much
But we aren’t in that situation
Just bc a guy has talent,
doesn’t mean he’s MENTALLY READY
Do u not recognize that a large part of playing QB has to do with the Mental side of the game?
Let’s not turn this kid into the next Jamarcus Russell please
If we want ed to play a QB right away,
we should’ve picked Rosen
Some guys need development still when they come out of college
Allen is one of those guys

Of course
And the plan was to let him sit too
However,
He proved in Camp & preseason that he was ready
Goff was picked ahead of him,
and the Rams didn’t start him right away
Some guys are ready,
some are not
I just don’t think Allen is ready
Talent is there... obviously
Just don’t think he’s mentally ready yet
And i don’t understand why ppl want to rush him? |

Why do you say he’s not ready? You can’t just say it - the kid has exceeded expectations in both of his preseason opportunities, and you have admitted you didn’t even watch the game closely.
If there’s something specific your referring to you should say so and let us know what it is.
Otherwise this is just a preconceived notion. |

It's a case-by-case basis. I see a downside to starting him too soon. I don't see a downside to waiting. 17 straight years of my 28 years on Earth included no playoffs for the Bills. I was 5 years old the last time we won a playoff game. I'm willing to wait and potentially sacrifice this season if it helps Allen |

I’m not convinced it’s gonna turn out this way, but the downside would be if he shows he’s the better qb than Peterman, and we lose games Allen might have won. |

True. That's only applicable imo if you think Allen could lead them to the playoffs and gain playoff experience. Otherwise, 10-12 games is fine to me |

“So far, I would say he’s been pretty steady, and that’s a great quality,” McDermott said. “Mentally, he’s pretty steady. I think the guys appreciate that. For a rookie to have that quality is important. The mental toughness element, if you will, is something important to manage the highs and lows of life in the NFL.”

And for those that say the players aren't part of the decision why did McDermott apologize to the team after benching Tyrod last year?

Well I’ll just speak about game 1 specifically
He looked like he didn’t know where to go with the ball,
as opposed to say Peterman who was getting the ball out right away
Even on Allen’s TD pass,
he stared down that WR the entire time instead of working through his progressions
I don’t think he’s good at reading defenses
I don’t think he’s even adequate at it yet
That’s what I’ve seen so far
And while i didn’t watch the game last night closely yet
from what i noticed, i didn’t see much change
Arm strength- fantastic
Mobility- better than expected
But again,
I think the mental part of playing QB needs much work still
And it’s my belief that if u rush him,
he could get overwhelmed & that could delay him from turning into a Star QB for us
Taking our time on developing him doesn’t hurt us imo |

Not mental toughness
Smarts in reading defenses
Also,
Of course McDermott is gonna talk about him positively |

He's also not going to make stuff up. Allen is dynamite in the pocket under pressure, so far. He looks like Roethlisballs back there shuffling around trying to find an open lane. He hasn't looked much like a rookie yet, maybe that's because we haven't had a QB since Bledsoe.
I hated the pick, but he's shown a lot so far, and his accuracy issues, again, so far, seem wildly overstated. I'm not saying he's Kurt Warner or anything, but neither has he been Blaine Gabbert. |

If you mean his game 1 TD pass, that’s incorrect.
Go to Dan Orlovsky’s Twitter. He breaks it down and showed how he made the corner think he was throwing to the flat with a slight pump fake |

If Allen starts it’s because management think he ready, they have proven to know more then anyone here, I think we should just trust the process...
