Tired of so called hockey experts bemoaning how ineffective Sutter is. He had the most defensive zone starts & played against other teams best line but still managed to lead the team in plus/minus with + 8 & chipped in 11 goals |

I'd like to see JB put himself in a good position to sell leading up to the TDL.
That "we can catch CHI" mindset won't make it possible |

I'ver changed my opinion of him
He was the team's 3rd best forward after Brock and Horvat last year. I'm also glad to hear that he's still embracing his shutdown role even with Henrik retired. Guys like him, Edler and Tanev are going to help the youth by playing the tough minutes. |

I don't have a problem with Sutter, I think he steps it up this season. If he gets hurt the're going to be in trouble. |

Beagle can step up into Sutter's role, I don't think he can do it for 82 games, but I think he could handle it for a stretch to cover for a Sutter injury. Obviously he wouldn't be as good as Sutter in that role, but he could at least reduce the damage. |

I know most hate the signings this year but I don't . Sutter said him and Beagle are there to help the young guys.
A good example is Granlund played an offensive role two years ago 19 goals 32 pts .
Last year put in a defeensive role 8 g 12 pts. Where does he fall this year going back to offensive role. Same as Sven and Jake.
These three guys were brought in to support the team and now lets see how they do

Playoffs always seem in reach for a while.
In reality unless Van is legit in a playoff spot. Sell and sell early so the younger players can get a few extra games. Rather have them 30-40 games of experience instead of 15-20. (If they are showing they are closer to ready in the AHL) - manvanfan
We will finish 29th. Hopefully get a top 4 pick so we can walk away with a good center. |

"Individually, Sutter’s 26 points in 61 games sound respectable, but it turns out to a pretty poor scoring rate when considering that he was within a minute of Bo Horvat and Brock Boeser for average even-strength ice-time.
In fact, if you consider his usage over his entire tenure in Vancouver, you’ll realize that he’s been producing points at a 4th line rate for the past three seasons."

Good hopefully we can actually deal him at the deadline this year when teams come calling now that we have Beagle in all his glory
Did anyone hear what the offers were rumored to be? |

I use the eye test with him . I see him killing the penalties , I see the shut down role , and I see where the puck is when he is on the ice. |

Like a few of us have stated, i'll be entertained by watching the young kids try to find their place on the team. I don't have high hopes for JB making any kind of great deal(s), nor do I expect them to be a post season team. |

JB making a "great deal" would be somewhat bad for this team. At this point, ice what we have, let sutter and beagle insulate and give opportunities for the kids, and let this season be a learning season for pettersson, and to a good extent, bo and brock for being leaned on heavily. The only trade i hope JB makes from now, until next draft is to acquire draft picks. |

Sutter has never been bad, and has actually been very good for the team imo. The fanbases dislike or hate on for him i think is because they expected him to be Kesler. I think sutter has been very good in where he has been told to play, the situations he has been put in, and how he has handled it all. |

They're comparing a guy who was used as a shutdown player against top lines + no PP time to 2 guys who were given neutral usage + top PP time + barely played against top lines.
Not to mention the fact they exclude how Sutter was able to keep the puck out of the Canucks net despite that usage on a bad team.
No bias there at all |

Bo plays with brock and sven
Sutter played with granlund and dorsett. (Archibald when dorsett went down)
Why are people even talking about sutters point production given their different roles/deployment. |

He was hated on because WD(who was in over his head in the NHL) used him like he was like a prime Kesler, giving him top 6 offensive minutes at 5v5, top unit PP time + top PK time. So Sutter was expected to produce offense in that role, and that's never been his strong suit.
I hated him back then too. Same with Megna and Vey. WD was just a bizarre coach, he just played guys he liked with no regard for the player's strengths and weaknesses.
Green actually used Sutter the way he should be and he had a solid season on a bad team. Not sure how much more people would expect out of Sutter last year in that role. He did about as well as you'd realistically hope for. |
