Brodeur leaves the Blues.
AW5 - Atomic Wedgie
Lou bringing him to the Islanders to answer the goaltending question. Brodeur signs 5 year contract! Hopes to be in game shape by Christmas.

2nd roundless for 15 years. |

nah, then you are just paying full market value for EK what other teams would have to pay
Avs own something no other team has, their 1st round pick, so any trade with Ottawa, that pick holds more weight.
Like I said if Sens dont like it, then they are more than comfortable holding onto that pick and watch them spin their wheels this season - DDM-Coga
neither one of us knows what the GMs will do, but we both know that Karlsson with an extension is worth SIGNIFICANTLY more than Barrie and Ottawa's 1st....like double that. |

Agreed a signed EK is worth more, but EK isn't signed past this year. Until Ottawa announces an extension, every team will be dealing with the situation as a rental. |

I realize that, which is why my original post suggesting a trade had conditional assets worked in. |

But here's the thing, why would a GM give more assets for a player they could sign in a year? If EK is willing to sign with a team who he is traded to, he will most definitely sign with them as a UFA.
If the condition is "Give us this, if EK signs with you then give us more" and every GM will flip the finger and hang up. EK is either signed at the time of the deal or he is not. |

So you think an extended Karlsson is worth two young, top-pairing cost-controlled RHD and two picks that in all-likelihood would be in the top 3?

It would have to be a team with a lot of "futures" to offer up, and be willing to give up those futures for a rental.
All I can think of is Vegas? Although I imagine he would re-sign there. Even if he were a rental, Vegas went to the SCF this season, maybe they think Karlsson could put them over the top, and they do have a lot of future stuff stockpiled to return to Ottawa?
Other than that, Tampa? but they sure need to clear space. They do have the young talent to offer up though. - Aetherial
All it takes is a GM who feels that one Cup is the ultimate goal (as opposed to long term contender status etc). Vegas for example was likely kicking themselves a bit since they were so close to a Cup and EK would have definitely helped in that series) Maybe a GM like Poile who if I not mistaken still has not won a cup) decides he wants to push all in to get past Winnipeg and go for it this year. Right GM, right time, right player (we are not talking about Ryan McDonagh here), and a rental return can be pretty good.
Then hopefully whoever gets him around the TDL can resign him after a great payoffs, so that TB fans and their "we'll just wait and get him for free" can go back to pretending they didn't want him in the first place when he signs with one of their contending rivals

That's the thing though, there's a limited number of contenders that have what you want. Then add to that which contender doesn't want to contend again next season knowing they won't have Karlsson & have lost a few good pieces. Maybe the Peg as I've said before, maybe but I doubt Toronto - they want to be a good as possible for as long as they can me thinks unless Nylander can't be signed & then they say fick it let's roll the dice. Tampa who have already been involved, Vegas as you say. Big risk though & all those teams won't win you the draft lottery. |

when I say "double that" I mean 4 assets. 2 players, and yes, probably two 1sts. The Avs first wouldn't be a top 3 pick, it probably wouldn't be a top 20 pick.
An extended Karlsson means a team has the best dman in the game, still in his prime, and probably still a top 3 dman for the next 4-5 years. what do you think he's worth, a 1st and a pick?
looking at it from a kings perspective, what would you expect in return for doughty, if he was traded right now? |

Only if Sakic and the Avs were interested in over paying for him. Which they are not, multiple Avs beat writers have confirmed that the teams have talked, with Sakic only willing to move the 1st, nothing more....yet the Sens seem to still be connected to them.
No one really knows bc yes they are reports but a player is only worth what a GM can get for him and what teams are willing to give up for him....Karlsson might be worth more but bc how badly the Sens put themselves into a corner, they might not get what he is worth even extended (which he wont extend so thats a moot point) so his value is of a rental player of a team that is desperate to move on from this situation due to the risk of him walking for nothing.
Its shocking how this has all changed in the past 10 months |

Do you think Sakic would trade Ottawa's 1st for a signed Brady Tkachuk? |

I dunno, it would feel weird to do it now. But either way the kid would be in Colorado living and playing either with the Avs or Eagles.
I think they would but it would be an odd thing to do now. (I think Avs would have taken Zadina if they had the 4th pick) |

Maybe the Avs could trade their 1st round pick for Brady Tkachuk, then Ottawa could have a 1st next year. |
