Time for Day 2 of my Young Stars preview, with this year's returning players.

Guillaume Brisebois is back for his fourth tournament, while Olli Juolevi skates in his third....

I know Brisebois was actually the one drafted, but I liked Chatfield's game better at the camp last year + he seems to get better reviews from the people who watch Comet games. If he can develop into a steady, reliable bottom pairing dman who isn't mistake prone, that would be pretty damn nice.

Like I said, who predicted Eriksson would suck so bad here and who thought Gudbranson would look more like a 6/7 dman than a #4 dman when they were acquired?

It's dangerous to 100% assume that he can fill Sutter's shoes.

Eriksson is a strange story line - he scored 25+ goals 5 times in 8 years (AND 22 another year and 12 in the lockout year) prior to coming to Van - I don't think anyone saw him coming here based on his past and figured he would suck so bad.

As for 100% filling Sutter shoes...are they really that big to fill?? Beagles been pretty consistent the last 4 years so I really don't see the stretch in assuming he can't do it. Being a decent center, shutting down the opposition and putting up 20 pts isn't really a big ask considering that's his specialty. I'd rather see him than Dowd, Archibald, Granlund or Gaunce.

but at what cost?

the balls are simply too big, would probably have to take up a couple of blocks and at least 1 Starbucks would be part of the collateral damage

They would be an extreme cost but 1% of our limp d*** mayors bicycle lane budget should cover the cost

Don't get me wrong, I'm not against adding Beagle(I think he's overpaid, but I like that they targeted a player of his elk instead of more Gagner/Vanek types who need pp time + easy 5v5 mins to be effective). I'd rather have him over the guys you mentioned as well.

I just think Sutter is under-appreciated here and I've seen people suggest that Sutter can be traded and Beagle will fill his spot. I'm just saying that I'd like to see how Beagle plays as a Canuck before making that claim.

And the other part of it is that Beagle is 33 at the start of this season, he may give you Sutter-like performance this year, but what if the Canucks trade Sutter at the TDL then Beagle declines next year as a 34 year old and can't handle the shutdown minutes effectively?
