He will do what's best for the players development. I would rather send a waiver exempt player down, then try and trade another player if they could.

Say Gaudette makes the team over Gaunce. Gaunce goes on waivers and is claimed. 5 games in Gaudette isn't cutting it. Don't have a replacement for him anymore. Why not send Gaudette down to play 20 minutes a night and if he's ready, try and trade someone to open up a spot for him.

When you commit to Gaudette, because he earned a spot, you work with him through his lows and ride his highs. Only if he beats the others out though, which shouldn't be hard to do.

How much better does Gaudette have to be to win a spot? Let’s say it’s between Gaudette, Gagner and Granlund for the 4th C position. I think Manvan has it right. Hoard all the marginal talent for depth, and when injuries occur, which they always do, then you can reward the Gaudette’s of the league with an NHL paycheck. It is also good for relationships with the veteran players. How would it look to future UFA’s if you put Gagner on waivers and sent him to the minors in year 2 of his 3 year deal?

Virtanen should never have played in the AHL then.

Ross Atkins on Vlad Jr.

"The roster spot is extremely important to us to keep the depth here. Vlad understands it's just one step in the process for him."

On Vlad going to the Arizona league. "the next best natural step for him"

"We are doing everything we can to get Vlad and others to the big leagues as fast as possible, as the best possible player they can be. Using the minor leagues to exhaust that is very important"

Virtanen should have been sent back to the WHL. I agree on Gaudette, he is more mature, physically and mentally. Still, why risk loosing a player for nothing if you can maneuver everyone safely. I'm not talking the Reid Bouchers of the world, they will certainly make it through waivers, but why loose Leipsic if you don't have to?

Leipsic is better than Gaunce so I doubt he gets sent down. We forget Gaudette was the best of the best in that league .

Leipsic might be more creative at the offensive end, but I guarantee you that Green would rather have Gaunce on the ice protecting a lead. It just depends which roles are open for competition. I don't think these two players will be battling with each other for a spot on the roster.

I think you know yourself the defensive roles are mostly filled this summer.

Hughes is 100 times the prospect that Woo is.
Now if you'd have said Hughes over Boqvist then you'd have a point.

I was Mittelstadt for the longest time. Troy enlightened me on Pettersson & i was mostly undecided after that.

I think Beagle is the 3rd C, and shut down line. I also think Rousel will get looks in the top 6. I could see Gaunce earning a spot on LW with Beagle on line 3, or perhaps with Schaller as the 4th C, or even Gaudette, as a kind of defensive conscience of the line. Limited minutes from the 4th.

That was the point. There have been very good RHD available but JB has gone with the LHD instead. Woo was brought into it by Vantel for some reason. I don't know what that reason was.

So many possibilities , too hard to guess . I think the best will be the best at training camp. Truthfully I couldn't give a rats ass about losing a fringe player going through waivers. You want to play in the NHL then prove it.
