fact that in the statement by Schmidt there wasn't any transparency about what substance we are talking about, means I'm siding with NHL here. |

Nothing to be sour about. We can’t win every year and I was actually happy to see Ovie get his cup.
I don’t like Wilson or other players who play so wreckless, yet it takes multiple incidents to finally get punished. When they get punished it’s barely a slap on the wrist. As a pens fan I was never in denial about Cooke, and Caps fans shouldn’t be in denial about Wilson, or B’s fans about Marchand, etc...
While I’m against PEDs in sports, I think player safety should be taken more seriously than PEDs. |

Nice. Bettman cheats to get them a stacked roster. The players are cheating too. Pretty soon there will be a news report that the goals were different sizes all season at home and that William Karlsson was deflating pucks |

Sure you can win every year. We have a commissioner who breaks all the rules to stack your team. He will figure out a way to get you into the finals of his event again 🙄 |

Who knows what to beleive. The league is not transparent in these matters. It's a private business the NHL. They could in theory allow a team for 1 season to juice and not enforce or ignore results. Vegas a team of rejects looking like allstars man to man last year?. All testing and enforcement should be given to an outside body. The NHL should not be policing themselves internally. Being a business with money at stake the NHL is ripe for corruption. I hate the draft lotto system too. There's no reason when the balls drop, that process can't be the actual live event in real time showing the winner. Not a secret ball ritual and then they show the cards being flipped later as if that equals the way it went? I don't care what anyone says, the league is corrupt. It's a private Billionaires club they probably have an internal bidding war. The random probability fasade is just a front. The 2 ref system, video replay, all ways to subsectivly manipulate the integrity of the game. The owners could choose year to year which team doesn't get testing enforced against them. It's a game like WWE in my opinion. Match fixing is a real thing already been exposed in other sports. This is all fantasy world Professional sports. The athletes and more so the fans are just pawns. This isn't real life laws and rules, there Orchestration and billionaire agendas in the old boys billionaire club. I see the NHL for what it is. I don't hold the league to some higher standard of virtue. I enjoy supreme talent on the ice know it's a product like a movie being presented to us with compelling scripts and everything. There's villains and hero's, there's winners and losers. |

Like many things in life, it is hard to know what to feel.
If he truly was/is not using anything illegal, and it entered via ??? Other means, then you want his name cleared. If he did use and thought all would be out of system by now, but it wasn't..... You want him to be caught and pay the price.
Unfortunately, we will never know for sure. You either believe him or don't. I think the league has to be consistent with its rules, especially regarding performance enhancements and medication.
If they choose to believe him, then they are in a bind next time someone else has something found and "swears" they didn't do anything. - Mph6689
Why wouldthe league start now in being consistant, do you watch the reffing? |

Vegas didn't cheat. They took advantage of 20+ GMs who overthough the expansion draft and overvalued the loss of 1 player. If GM's were willing to be stupid to protect certain players or unload certain players and Vegas took advantage of that. Kudos to Vegas |

Rules are rules idiot.
There is 700-800 other players in the league that aren't getting suspended for PED's
So schmidt can suck it up and accept that he F'd up and take his 20 games.
If anything, the trace amount indicates that he was timing his doses but made a mistake or caught in a random test. |

Seriously? I love these “everything is rigged” conspiracies. The leagues has incentive to enforce these policies, not let them slide.

I agree with you here, I think Schmidt is allowed to and should say this is what I tested positive for and this how I got it in my system. I understand why the league is quiet about it, for the players privacy in case he is taking some type of medication or supplement for a personal problem. The biggest problem with things like this is that fans are completely uneducated and full of myths when it comes to the actual benefits of these substances. This leads to even worst stigmas. |

What some people aren’t also taking into account is that this could be marijuana or some illegal rec drug. Often times, things substances are lumped in with the PED’s because they can be used for positive performance. |

If there are any Canadians here claiming that he deserves what ever punishment the NHL sees fit to give, fine. I get it.
But you might want to consider the real possibility that your life will be ruined in a similar arbitrary way by the new impaired driving laws covering both alcohol and drugs which are coming into full force on Dec 1 2018. You can read the details here but the burden of proof will now be on you to prove that you didn't consume intoxicants in violation of the law. Police no longer need cause; they can arbitrarily stop anyone and demand a test. They can even come to your house within 2 hours and demand a test and if you consumed alcohol in your on house within those 2 hours you will have to prove it to avoid being charged Read about the changes and new offenses and see how you could be found guilty of an indictable criminal offense (think criminal record, deportation, inadmissibility to other countries, blacklisted from employment, racial profiling, etc.) without ever having actually violated the law. So when you say rules are rules, good for you. Just don't b1tch and whine if it happens to you.

So do players get pain killing shots through games if they are injured but can play on if they get that shot?
Over here players get them all the time.
If they do, why isn't that called performance enhancing?
It's a debate we have here from time to time. Those pain killing shots are drugs, & improve the performance of players. |

He blatantly head shot Wennberg in the CBJ game. Knocks one of the best CBJ players in the game out of the series... was penalized on the play. It is a blatant charge and blindside hit, around 46 seconds you can clearly see the head contact.
Somehow, received 0 games.
So yeah, Kadri should not have did what he did... but a little consistency from the league would be nice.
and may this poop wouldn't happen if the refs called the game, in the playoffs also. |

I guess the counterpoint is that those shots are allowing the players to continue to play but not improving what they could do normally do.
If you go down your road, then anything that allows an injured player to play is performance enhancing... antibiotics?

As a professional getting paid lots & lots of monaay you are required to be aware of what goes into your body. As a player in an organisation, you have the responsibility to follow what that organisation is telling you about what you put in your body. The organisation I'm positive (see what I did there ), that Vegas advises their players to follow what they recommend & would have to approve anything that a player wants to take that hasn't been advised to that player as ok.
He has a responsibility, he has failed a test. For whatever reason, he failed. Pure & simple. If there are grounds to appeal which I would think there is, then he has that option. But it goes back to him consuming in some way something that was illegal & against the rules. |

That would come down to what is considered acceptable & not acceptable. The arguement for or against the pain killers is that without them the player cannot play, with them he can so it is a blatant aid for a player to play better than he would be able to normally.
There is another example I have where I believe it should be ok. An injured player that can take steroids to get him playing again sooner. We had a case where a young player took a substance that helped recovery & had muscle healing qualities. The player had just had a shoulder reco & it was during the offseason. The product significantly helped his recovery so he could play the next season rather than sit half of it out. Once he had recovered, he stopped using the product. He was going into his final season on his contract & needed another contract.
He was a professional league player so being injured would have had dire effects on his earning potential. I believe as long as these players aren't using these drugs during season or pre season & ONLY for injury recovery that they should be allowed. Get them back on the field sooner so they can earn a living. Open it up for everyone & have the governing body oversee the treatments. 1 issue a lot of people had was the fact that steroids & peds are dangerous to a persons long term health. Well so is contact sport! |
