This year doesn't seem to have an Eichel-like excitement to it, but yet it seems more important. About a dozen of these guys should be in contention for an NHL job this year or next.

I think 3 years of us, post-Eichel, and still terrible has tempered enthusiasm. People don't dare to believe we'll ever be good again.

Not to mention Skinner, Sheary, what I believe will be stable goaltending, and solid bottom-six play from Berglund, Erod, Sobotka, and the healthy return of Bogo and McCabe.

So, Okposo was describing Rasmus Dahlin, the defenseman the Sabres drafted first overall, right? Well, no. How about Casey Mittelstadt, one of hockey’s top center prospects? Not exactly.

Try winger Victor Olofsson, the Sabres’ seventh-round pick in 2014 and the Swedish Hockey League’s reigning goal king. Olofsson, 23, is about to start his first season in North America.

Mittelstadt will stand out, Dahlin will steal your breathe away occasionally. I’d love to say Nylander will go top titty every period, but I don’t know if they even play NHL anymore in the lounge, probably only fortnite now.
