For sure! The sooner the better. Nice to see somebody actually walked the walk after all of that BS about changing the culture, being more transparent blah blah blah......

And Lefebvre was a wussy!

- Snots33_77

Yeah, no clue how Lefebvre was in the room, but he did seem to have a little bit of that vanilla-Pacioretty-ish vibe

Thank you.

Tatar is not very good and costs 5.3M for the next 3 years.

Suzuki might be nice.

It's probably more than anyone thought we'd get for him at this point?? Vegas gave up WAY too much for Tatar to begin with so Suzuki and the pick is good considering we have the cap space for a serviceable player in Tatar heading into the abyss.

Sucks how Patches was treated, but thats a decent return considering he could have walked for nothing.....

I agree that's about as good as it gets. If Tatar doesn't do better he'll be a cap dump. Vegas grabbing him was a terrible deal.

Good return as far as I can tell. Does anyone know anything about Suzuki beyond what elite prospects has to say?

Not bad considering what Skinner was traded for + Bergevin screwing his trade leverage by admitted that they weren’t going to extend Patches.

Patches is better than Skinner.

Not a very good return.

Edit : Maybe Suzuki could make it worth. Maybe.

yeah. a first would have been better than a 2nd, especially considering they take Tatar back. but under the present circumstances, with the golf tournament tomorrow... good enough.

I agree, he's better than Skinner. But everyone knew Montreal wanted to move him and wasn't gonna sign him.

Getting back a good prospect + pick + potentially another guy you guys can flip for another pick isn't a bad return considering those circumstances.

It seems insane to me that Tatar brought back a 1st, 2nd, 3rd just a few months ago and now he's a cap dump. He's 27 years old and has 4 straight 20+ goal seasons.

Montreal should be able to move him at the TDL unless his offense completely tanks.

5.3M for a perimeter 20G scorer is a lot of $$$. he doesn't bring anything else. yes they should dump him as soon as he gets hot.

it's pretty much the going rate for UFA 2nd liners these days with the cap almost at 80M so I don't think it's terrible, especially since he's not old.

He should get plenty of ice time so I think he'll still produce in Montreal and will have value at the TDL when the playoff teams need scoring. Worst case, MTL eats some of his cap hit to get a better return.

They created those circumstances. This team has no direction and keeps making meh trade after meh trade.

The only thing to look forward to next season is another top pick but even then, they are not good at drafting and bringing up their kids.

it's a good trade. look at it from a Vegas pov.
they paid a 1st and a 2nd to improve from 3y of Tatar to 1y of Patch.

Tatar was not very good during the playoffs. Maybe he bounces back a little during the season. At this point he's more a salary dump.

I would agree. but he still scores 20G, when Patch socres 30G, both perimeter players, both disappear in the playoffs

Suzuki was the obvious main piece to this deal, Tatar is a nice throw in who will fill some the offensive void left by Pacioretty and eventually get dealt for more picks and prospects.. Unless Suzuki turns out to be a bust, this was a real strong deal for Bergevin, I guess he was due...

Suzuki(19), Poehling(19) and Kotkaniemi (18), pretty decent depth at center now

Suzuki is a solid prosect. Not the fastest or biggest but tons of skills, he should be playing for Canada at the world juniors at Xmas.

And watch mtl sign PACs next summer

All they need now is Hughes or Newhook in the next draft!
