i do think it's unlikely Price plays well enough to move the needle much. this team was going to have a miserable time scoring goals even with Pacioretty returning to previous form. i also think they're going to have an issue with Price. i cannot imagine he is thrilled with the direction they seem to be headed.

So I guess the key words are "it's not a bad trade, under the circumstances"

i don't think the caveat is needed. Pacioretty had no more value to this team as a player. he's getting older and more expensive, and this is a team that figures to be pretty bad for the next 2-3 years. this was the most logical thing they could have done. makes me think Marc Bergevin had nothing to do with it.

Considering what the Canes got for Skinner, this was a solid return

You really have to add that, because it was bad asset management yet again. Guess we will see what Suzuki can do at some point. I don't think Tatar will bring back a first at this point either...

It will be huge if we can get Hughes....

Yeah same here. The fact that a 2nd round pick has been added means that there was more than one team in the run, and Vegas won the derby. The Habs got more than I anticipated for 1-year of a kinda-slumping Pacioretty.

Yeah I guess they're definitely looking more at the longer term than the need to win right now. And they're pretty damn minded on finding a center, after a few years (20?) of not having a real #1

He's very dependant of the players he's playing with...will probably depend who he's paired with.

He needs a good playmaking center to feed him, do they have one?

That would be nice. The only reason I might watch this year is because one of my friend want to catch some games.

Yeah I should have said "after a bad year" and not "slumping"
But like ASP said years ago, he's Michael Ryder 2.0 - a good complimentary winger.

I think he will fit nicely in Vegas. Paul Stastny is a pass-first guy, Alex Tuch will take care of the gritty stuff. That could be a very solid 2nd line.
