Right now Rangers. Gonna depend on if Suzuki or Miller turn out to be the better player. My bet is on Miller.

If I had to choose, and part of the rationale is the contracts, I'd take Spooner over Tatar

You're calling this a recap?
I doubt you even watched the games...
First of all Hajek has been what I expected, then Howden, Chytil, Meskanen, Lindqvist has been good. Not sure about Lindgren... and Lias' skating is as awful as last year

I don't like a guy much who is getting 5.3 mil a year that gets regularly healthy scratched in the playoffs

how is it a terrible take? Spooner is a little younger and comes off a year where he had 41 points in 59 games

Tatar has had the better career but totaled 34 points in 82 games last year

I look at that Vegas blue line and think to myself how do they possibly expect to win games, but then again, I looked at that blue line all last year and thought the same thing.

But, if I were McPhee and I was going to trade Suzuki, it would have been for defense

- jimbro83

I agree Jim, unless McPhee has another future deal planned for some additional help on the back line to supplement his earlier signing of former Ranger and previously experienced Western Conference d'man in Nick Holden during his Avs days. That, especially so with Nate Schmidt being suspended for their first 20 games, and relying on Holden to fill that void.
Vegas's top 5 d'men in Schmidt, McNabb, Theodore, Miller, and Engelland played in all 20 of their postseason games. Sbisa and Merrill split the other 20 playing in 12 and 8 games, respectively, as they nearly did likewise during the regular season, along with Hunt playing in more than half of the 82 games, but none in the postseason.
With Fleury dominating behind them through Round 3, except for Theodore's 10 playoff points, no other Knights d'man tallied more than 7 points, in both Schmidt and Miller. Pacioretty will replace Neal's loss up front offensively. But some greater help offensively for their back line may be needed to make that final step. That's why I thought they would have already acquired Erik Karlsson ahead of being able to acquire Pacioretty, for what could have been their real final piece necessary.

I can't believe the Rangers have a pre-season game 1 week from today at MSG vs the Devils, that's insane

Max Pacioretty has signed an extension worth $28 million for 4 years. $7 million AAV. He's now signed with VGK through the 2022-23 season.

I read somewhere that the trade was predicated on whether Patches would sign long term with VGK

Tatar was non productive offensively in playing in only 8 of the Knights' 20 total postseason games he only played in for another good reason as well, dating back prior to the start of the playoffs.
After being acquired by Vegas, Tatar tallied only 6 points (4 Goals & 2 Assists), and had even worse, (+/-) rating of (-11) in his 20 regular season games with them. That was tied for second worst in the Knights overall regular season, along with both Neal who at least contributed offensively, and surprisingly so with former Ranger, Oscar Lindberg. Their team's lowest (+/-) rating was Erik Haula's (-16), but at least he also contributed offensively with 29 Goals and 26 Assists.

That is a different conversation. Most Ranger fans would agree that Chytil is a better prospect than Miller. Suzuki is better prospect than Chytil. Those aren't slights to Chytil or Miller.

not certain that Suzuki could have gone to AHL last year and score 31 points in 46 games

I'm beginning to also think that being required to also accept Bobby Ryan's contract could be the reason why no team right now appears to be near as seriously interested in acquiring Erik Karlsson, as Tampa was in early Summer. That's when the Rangers were being rumored as the third team needed by Ottawa to come in and absorb Ryan's contract, in exchange for some "bonus" supplement to come from at least Tampa.
That preceded the later rumor that the Rangers instead, would be willing to take the contract of Ryan Callahan off Tampa's hands along with some "bonus" received, for Tampa to be able to accept Bobby Ryan's contract at least for that time. That despite Callahan being out of action until at least October, after having his surgery.

kind of amazing what Chytil did last year considering he was still 17 years old when September started last year
