Borgen is my dark horse. He reminds me of Jay McKee somehow. Not sure exactly what it is other than the physical play. But he's got better hands and skating than I thought. Could be a solid shutdown guy on a lower pairing one day.

Most scouts and media walk away with this impression. It's his deployment and reputation that infer that he's a Mike Weber. He can definitely use his hands, however, I doubt he will be put into that position very often because of his obvious skill in his own end vs the other end.

I was disappointed to not see any of this year's drafted prospects at the tournament (outside of Dahlin and Pekar), but it was clear the only ones that were going to be there were guys young enough and able to fight for a pro contract or promotion. Laaksonen has apparently played well enough to be considered for an invite, despite the fact that the team wants him in Finland for another year or two. I wonder if an invite was extended to Davidsson, or if the rules are simply different for SHL players than Liiga players.

Two other players that Pronman didn't have a chance to personally view, from other scouts:

Rasmus Dahlin, D, Buffalo: Dahlin was as advertised. Skill, speed, sense were all at a level well above the competition here. You saw how competitive a player he is in battles and in front of the net. He’s NHL ready.

Tage Thompson, RW, Buffalo: Thompson showed the ability to make plays and, for a 6-foot-6 player, that has to get Buffalo excited. His hands and shot are very, very good.

I'd bet all my internet points Borgen doesn't make the Sabres this year, but by the time the Scandellas and Bogos contracts expire, we, for once, may actually have acceptable depth to replace them.

Samuelsson was the other I wanted to see. That's why, personally, I wasn't too keen on seeing guys like Atwal and Welsh taking up spots. Not that they played poorly, but AHL guys aren't meant for an NHL prospects camp. Even Coskey and Powell, to me, are unnecessary additions. Rather have our Swedes there...

Laaksonen played very well in the two games I saw...was a pleasant suprise. I think we are in really good shape moving forward on defense.

I never said we would go 10-6, that's is a joke no chance in hell. We have been drafting Defense for over 10 god damn years now, it's seems we still haven't got it right. Never addressed the O line .

We can’t criticize Bean for the last 10 years, he wasn’t here. In his two drafts he has traded into the top 10 to draft a QB, and traded picks twice for players on offense in the second rd (jones and Dawkins)

Our o-line was prob a top 3 unit two years ago, regressed last year and had two of our top guys (woods and incognito) leave unexpectedly.

If you want to criticize beane, do it for squandering picks, not drafting offense, which he has.
