This! Well said & my thoughts exactly. WTF????? This deal just masks the horrible deal he made to acquire Tatar because if I recall Tatar was healthy scratched for some playoff games & I know, because I had the SOB in my playoff pool

It's damage control. The Knights really had no need to auction off futures so early on to pick up a player like Tatar. It was a waste of a trade for them considering how little he even played/contributed.
So yeah, as a whole they gave up too much for Pacioretty, but better to overpay on a top goal-getter than Tatar. It's damage control, but regardless the Knights are a better team at the forward position now than they were last season.
McPhee has clearly made the choice to build VGK to contend now rather than later which I think will be a big mistake a few years down the road, but it's helped to build the fanbase quickly which is probably a better business decision.
