So young, most players will need adult accompaniment to get on a plane. |

Most comparable contracts to Pacioretty's 4 year, $28M extension:
Player (signing team)
1. van Riemsdyk (PHI) 5 years - $7M AAV
2. Stastny (STL) 4 years - $7M
3. Steen (STL) 4 years - $5.75M
4. Backes (BOS) 5 years - $6M - Symba007
I’d take him over all of those players |

Always loved Patch but it seems to me that he never was (or will be) captain material. While no one can deny his natural goal scoring abilities, he'll never be a guy to lead men into (playoff) battles.
He would probably have had better numbers if the Habs could have paired him up with better centermen but, unfortunatelly, the Habs were more concerned with turtling around the goalie during his time here.
Will we miss Patch's goal scoring? ... for sure, but even with him in the lineup this team was going nowhere anyway.
He seems like a nice guy so I hope he's happy in Vegas.
------------------------------------------
Being confronted with the sad situation they put themselves in, it seems like the Habs management FINALLY got the message about that pivotal center position ... sure took them long enough!
Fans screaming at them for 20 years finally got some results ... keep screaming guys, they eventually get the message (especially when fan attendance $$$'s starts going down).
While I haven't seen Suzuki play myself, it appears that most analysts think that Bergy did a good trade in acquiring his services (on top of a 2nd round pick and Tatar). Hope they're right, as we all are.
We're now unofficially into a totally necessary rebuilding period, so it makes sense that we try to maximize the return on our few valuable assets. If only we could unload Weber's and Price's albatross contracts (wishful thinking I know) ...
Anyway, I look at this trade as a positive step into a proper rebuild. |

Hopefully Bergevin can make another trade at 1 or 2 am, just to keep me entertained at work. |

Shaw, Benn, Schlemko, and finally, Weber (at the deadline)m Maybe even a few others. Rip it apart, spend the 2019 draft picking best top 5 they can get, regardless of position, then go hard on a new pack of defence.
Then wake me up in 3 years. |
