McDavid will deserve it, but the East Coast media bias will push Matthews over the edge for the win.

Only a late season injury prevented MacKinnon from winning the Hart and probably the Art Ross too.

It should have been McDavid last year. Involved in almost 50% of all Oilers scoring. Players league-wide voted for him unanimously. But the Hart 'has' to go to a player on a playoff team...joke.

If anything it should have been McKinnon over Hall as well.

My only knock on McDavid is that it was easier to rack up points late in the season for him because he could throw caution to the wind because of the games being meaningless. I don’t think he was too concerned about defence.

But when the Oilers still had a chance they were either being shut out or scoring one goal.

lol

he was a +20 on a team with a -30 goal differential

show me another player with those numbers on a bad team like that.

Not saying he’s not the best player in the league. That’s a given. Just saying that the other guys were doing what they did while carrying their teams on their backs into the playoffs.
Whether you like it or not that plays a part in the voting.

I'd say 50 is possible

60 is too much, I think that's happened twice since the '04 lockout (stamkos and ovi)

TSN has him projected for 43 goals. JT is projected for 75 points

it's "most valuable player", who was more valuable to their team? He meant more to the Oilers than Hall did to New Jersey, plan and simple.

Oilers probably finish last without him, I doubt the Devils are last without Hall, they had some decent young players play pretty well. Meanwhile the Oilers were bleeding goals and against and only McDavid's line and PP unit provided any consistent offense.

Hall won largely because the media loves a good story. They couldn’t resist kicking Chiarelli in the teeth.

McDavid could have won it. But Hall was everything for the devils. Without him they finish last. His next closest teammate in points was a rookie and was 41 points behind him.

Exactly. If we all can’t agree why do we expect the writers to get it right. It’s subjective. The players vote on the best player and McDavid was an easy pick.

I think he deserves more recognition. Played the last two seasons at a ppg clip and has scored almost 30 goals a year over the past three seasons (would have cracked that number easy had he not been injured last year). And he is only 25. I would not be surprised if we see another gear from him this season.

Nice try, guys, but the Oilers won't make the playoffs, so McDavid can't win.

Yawn. More baseless comments from western Canadian fans. Go check the history of these awards. Plenty of western based players win.
Btw. Matthews is set to have a big year. Unlike McDavid, he has a team around him
