I saw that. Says he got a text from an NHL GM.
But then when he read the text, it sounded more like the NHL GM was asking if Gord was hearing if Karlsson was traded.
On a side note, I was never particularly impressed with Miller - didn't hate him, but wasn't wowed by him. But holy crap, the guy is good on Leafs lunch - I'm blown away by his depth of knowledge.
P.S. I have no idea how Carlo Coliacovo still has a job in media. - Atomic Wedgie

What if they do?
Jeremy Bracco has a performance bonus as well.. Not saying he'll make the team, but the Leafs need to be ready just in case.. - PatC80
he won't if for no other reason than that. |

Sure he's 33 years old, yes his contract pays him 7.3M per season until he's 41, yes he's been injured seriously for the first time in his career (which doesn't make him injury prone yet btw)
He's still, and will remain, a first pairing defenseman for years to come. Hell, he'd be the best defenseman on the Leafs.
If you think most teams wouldn't jump on the possibility of adding Shea (frank)ing Weber to their team, I believe you are mistaken.
He's much more valuable to a team than you give him credit for.
Imho of course. - Scabeh
Can't agree.
There is NOONE who would take a 33 year old dman, coming off a serious injury, and will still be out for a couple months this year AND is signed to a cap hit of 7+ for like the next 7 or 8 years.
No way in hell.

What about all the hometown discounts and making winning his priority over getting paid? |

Karlsson for Nylander?
Nylander wants $8M, Karlsson wants out of Ottawa.
Only makes sense.

Flyers fan here.
What is the holdup with the Nylander signing? Is it term, money, or both?
Is the pending Marner and Matthews deals factoring in?
I see the Leafs are going to be shelling out some BIG deals next offseason giving them a pretty top heavy salary structure.
Do you see them trying to move Marleau and Horton or buying them out to clear some space next year?
What kind of trade deal do you think the Leafs would do for Nylander?
Would they do Sanheim, Rubstov and a 2nd?
Im just spitballing to see where Leafs fans are in terms of what they would consider a reasonable deal.
Thanks. - MBFlyerfan
If Sanheim was more established like Provorov (who'd I'd want if he was a RHD) then maybe that would make sense. But at this point, it'd have to be a lot more than just Sanheim. Konecny would have to also be included, as would another piece like Scott Laughton or Wayne Simmons if he can't be re-signed.
And even then, it'd be Nylander for three pieces the Leafs don't really need which is a top pairing RHD. Even Gostisbehere is a meh return because he's like Gardiner in a lot of ways. I don't see there being much the Flyers have to offer for Nylander. |

From the Leafs perspective, we can't really afford to take on Weber.. We don't have a bad contract to trade and I doubt Montreal would accept a trade that included Nathan Horton in it.
The only reason the Leafs trade for him, should be to piss off Nashville.. - PatC80
The Leafs could afford Weber, even at 7 million per year (even though no deal should be made unless Montreal retains at least 1.5/2 million per year), if you consider what'll cost to sign Gardiner, it's a relative bargain.
The problem is, at 36/37/38 years old, if he doesn't retire and still wants to collect his 6/3 million dollars per year but old age has caught up to him, you have a big cap hit for a guy way past his prime. And unlike a guy like Karlsson, who is 29, those mid 30s are only two years away.
Also might cost an arm and a leg to acquire and his window of prime years is fairly small. He'd have to come cheap with a way lower cap hit to be worth it. |

The problem is that guys like Gardiner are going to have to go to fit MMN under the cap. The Leafs will NEED to have a good number of young, cheap, even entry-level deals on their roster to make the cap work.

For 2 years hell likely get less then 4.5M. He'd be absolutely insane to think he is worth 8M per season right now. He'd be getting awful advice. |

Evander Kane just signed a long term deal for 7M per year.
If I'm Nylander's agent (hell, maybe I've been him this whole time!) It's pretty easy to make an argument that Nylander, as already posted better numbers than Kane being only 22 and is most likely to get better and produce even more with time.
If he's signing a long term deal, it might not be for 8M, but it's not going to be that far off either. |
