Time to rape a bottom-feeder for defensive help. Time to try and grab a player like Cody Ceci or Shea Weber from the Sens or Habs, while they race for the first overall draft pick, in 2019. Maybe approach Chicago and see if they'd be interested in a salary dump for Brent Seabrook. Have them pay half of his salary and we'll give them a middling draft pick or "B" prospect. Chicago is in cap hell. |

"Odds on favorite" is inaccurate. Vegas just moved the line because a lot of action is coming from Toronto.
How many "Vegas favorites" in September have actually won the Cup though? Just curious. - Unholy_Goalie
Well yes Vegas likes taking money from chumps. |

Ceci is (frank)ing atrocious.
Shea Weber, as amazing as he is, makes too much money for the Leafs to acquire.
Seabrook has lost 3 steps and makes too much money, even at half price.
All those "options" would hurt the Leafs. |

This is actually spot on, though. The odds makers know they can cash in on some early excitement in Toronto.
I don't think you'll find an intelligent Leaf fan who has called Toronto a cup contender for a very long time. They're pretty close to it now. I wouldn't say favourites, but good enough to make some noise and piss off every hockey fan won doesn't cheer for them. |

Last time I checked - Sens traded away 2019 first pick to Avs when they picked up Tkachuk. |

That said, who can blame them for moving out of Winnipeg to begin with...?

(frank). No.
I have no problem with acquiring a guy in his prime like Karlsson or Pietrangelo. You could even maybe make a case for PK Subban. But the key here is they are all under 30. Ceci isn't on the block, Weber is 33, Seabrook is 33 and both have contracts until they're 39+. Even at 4 million dollars a year, that's an asset that turns into a stone anchor down the road and we already have one of those in Zaitsev and at least he has the benefit of being in his mid 20s, not early 30s so his stock is more likely to rise than it is to fall.
I agree, the Leafs need a legit top pairing RHD and they should be fairly aggressive in trying to acquire one in exchange for surplus forwards, but absolutely no (frank)ing way do the Leafs need players exiting their prime. |
