FWIW, heard at 2:57PM Eastern Hawks have been in talks with Ottawa as well—about "a center."
Justin, anything to this?
Duchene is what the thread made it sound like. Would this move Schmaltz to wing or 3C? Probably getting ahead of myself... - KMFDMLight
No chance I am getting Duchene. Brass dont want to sacrifice any of the youth movement. 95% sure its zack smith |

Why would the Hawks want a 30yr old 4th line center with 19 points last year who makes $3.25mil until 2021??? |

Looks like we have competition for hughs. really sucks that this last draft looks like a top 7 and then the rest of the lottery is basically all the same. Maybe I'm wrong about boquist but I would have given up a lot to have Zadina or Hughs instead. - kmw4631
The competition will be with Colorado, they have Ottawa's first round pick.
Hughes vs Boqvist isn't much of a difference. Zadina would have been a nice pick-up though. I say an interview with the Canucks GM, if Zadina was available at #7 they would have drafted Hughes anyway. I'm happy with Boqvist, but it would have been nice if the Wings would have drafted him and we got (funky cold) Zadina. |

This summer would indicate otherwise. Hughes was the best player at the Summer Showcase while Boquist was a non-factor. Hopeful that Boquist makes big strides this year in the OHL and proves the bolded correct. |

Dzingel is not a center, hasnt been for a long time and not really on the NHL level
I dont think we want another junior level position reclamation project |

I don't want Smith or Duchene.
Maybe Duchene is the price is super low (i.e. for the rights to Lalonde) but that's not likely the case. |

If Ottawa is giving away Karlsson for a couple of good but not top tier prospects, some picks, and meh roster players, I don't see how they expect very much for Duchene. It's not going to be the Hawks that land him, though, and I wouldn't want any of the other centers now that Pageau is out. |

Likely not happening with Duchene
Everyone also needs to realize that after the Karlsson trade, Ottawa is only $1.7 million over the cap FLOOR
Moving Duchene will not work unless they are taking back someone like Murphy or Anisimov and honestly as much as we hope and dream, hard to image that makes it work for Ottawa without including a premium asset from our side like a Debrincat if they need to take large salary back in return to make it work
we no longer have the Hossa contract to make dead cap work against pennies on the dollar in real salary |

Anisimov's cap hit vs salary, the cap is higher than he's paid the next 3 years.
Duchene is making 6.5M this year vs a cap hit of 6.0M
plus Anisimov is ~1.5M less than Duchene, Melynk gets closer to the cap floor and saves probably 1M or more in REAL dollars from swapping the two (plus pick/prospect) |

I just don't understand how anyone could have watched the Crawford interview at the Convention, and think that he is going to be the "old" CC anytime soon if ever.
Something very very wrong there. Not getting into any rumors, just saying, that wasn't a guy who could be a NHL goalie. |

this sounds like the Hawks kind of guy. Overpaid, longer term contract, little production |

Except Duchene doesnt really fit into our roster. If you continue to view Schmaltz as a 2C and want him to develop into a long term 60+ point player, he needs to continue to develop in that role. I dont think you want to move AA in favor of Duchene and now Duchene moves to 2C. What are you going to do, play Schmaltz at 3C? I think thats less than ideal since he will have poorer linemates to produce with. Are you going to move Duchene to wing to play in the top 6? You just gave away your 3C and weakened our center depth?
Its just not a good fit. Sure you could plug schmaltz at 3C, but the question is what will it do to his development and what else besides Anisimov needs to go the other way to make this enticing enough for the hawks and OTT?
Also, Anisimov has a partial NTC, absolute zero chance any player with any kind of power allows himself to be traded there. Ottawa will be on every players no trade team list and will not be on any players accepted trade team list |

I think is a bit overrated Duchene and I don't think the Hawks would have what Ottawa really wants but there are some mistakes here and it's weird to say he wouldn't fit on the roster.
First, the Sens are $12m above the cap floor right now post-Karlsson. They could trade Duchene right now and not get anyone in return and be fine.
Second, Duchene is better than Anisimov, no matter how you look at it, the center depth would be better. AA could be the one moved to wing or he's gone. I do agree though that AA would have been an idiot to put Ottawa on his 10 trade-to list. Who would?
Third, Schmaltz at 3C wouldn't necessarily impede his development. I like Schmaltz-Kane, but one good thing about playing away from Kane would be to teach Schmaltz to be a more selfish player. And yeah, anyone is downgrade from Kane, but Schmaltz-Debrincat/Sikura could possibly do some serious damage in an offense line role.
Fourth, Duchene could slide down to 3C if Q wants to keep Schmaltz-Kane together. It wouldn't mean he was getting b6 minutes, just like Hossa and Saad didn't when they skated on the 3rd line, just that his primary linemates would just be on a lower line.
All this to say, Duchene could definitely fit on the Hawks and it wouldn't necessarily mean salary had to go the other way. It's still not going to happen but some of the reasons you listed aren't why imo. It's be because 1) the Hawks don't have the assets to land him, even at a discount, 2) Duchene doesn't put them in contention this season anyway so why give up assets for him, and 3) the Hawks likely cannot afford him after this season. |

Having Duchene play top 6 LW until either Toews/Schmaltz go down wouldn't be the worst thing in the world. And letting Duchene (50+% at the dot) take some FOs but Schmaltz play the center position in important situations (or on a PP unit) wouldn't be a terrible idea either... |

Nope. Haven't heard anything.
I can see Duchene being moved closer to the deadline if there is indications that he's not resigning.
OTT is in a tough spot because they can't be too terrible because they don't have their 1st rd pick... so optics would be really bad if that pick ends up being top 3.
After moving Hoffman and Karlsson, one would have to thing they need to hold on to a guy like Duchene.

That means he passed his physical today. Step forward, at least.
I know some are saying there is no way Crawford plays at all, but I don't think that is true. It could happen but there is not only a possibility that Crawford will play but that he might even start the season. Granted, I do think if he starts, it'll be as back-up to Ward. He's been working out off-ice all summer but not getting on the ice for a goalie is tough. Kane said he went pretty much the whole summer of 2015 off-ice until late August, but I think it might be easier for skaters. Goalies seem like they just need the ice more. |

The issue isn't demand for first-market tickets - which, I assume, with the waiting list, will all be sold, as you say, so that the sell-outs for now will continue.
The issue that they should be looking at (and I'm sure they are) is the secondary market - if that falls off (and I've read that it has been falling off), then season ticket holders will have a harder time unloading their unwanted tickets (and will do so at a lower price).
This would have an effect on future first-market season ticket sales - more ticket holders would be unwilling to re-subscribe if there isn't a good market for unwanted tickets. - StLBravesFan
The market for unwanted tickets cratered last year. I canceled my season tickets this year.
While there's still a decent chance they can sell out primary market tickets this year, there are some huge danger signs.
I've received regular calls and emails from an account rep in the past few weeks to gauge my interest in smaller packages. They indicate that plenty of good seats are available for most games that I could "mix and match." |

Duchene has elite speed and IMO you need him at center to give him the full sheet of ice to burn defenders. Moving him to the wing negates maybe his biggest strength |

I know everyone wants Sikura to make the team and he probably will but I thought Noel and Knott looked very good. Again a year or so out but they looked promising.
As for Bondra you see him with his size and you want him to make the team but it seems he cannot put it together for a long stretch it is a shame.
The best players were Ejdsell, Beaudin, Kahun and then Sikura. - Sn1362
Would like to see Bondra get a full season at Rockford. He hardly played at all last year I think due to injury. Still some potential there; that is why they kept him on. |
