it's entirely possible that if SJ doesn't win the cup this year, and karlsson doesn't re-sign......both teams lose this trade - sensarmy_11
Sounds like more of the same for Wilson. He's given young assets up like they're candy his entire career.
Karlsson will not re-sign there. The west is loaded with powerful teams and SJ's forward group is mediocre at best. It's a dumb move for a team that is not even close to contending. |

Funny to see how much butt hurt Leaf fans are taking over this deal.
It has been Dorion's dream to put an offensive centre like Duchene on the ice with Karlsson. Everybody needs to be patient. Not a time for saying dumb things that is going to open you to even more ridicule in the future.
As Dorion said this morning, the Sens are a very good team, they are going to the playoffs and it is his job to try and ensure that they go even deeper than last year. - spatso

While yes he's given up a lot, some Depends how you look at their prospect pool. I'm hearing conflciting reports if Merkley, or Norris was their best prospect. |

It doesn't matter. He gave up four young players and two draft picks for a player who doesn't address the numerous weaknesses on the team.
If this was Tampa, Winnipeg, Nashville, Toronto or a legit contender, fine but SJ is nowhere near that group of top teams even with EK. |

I dont think they actually have any real clear cut top prospects, there top 5 is all pretty interchangeable and you can find lists that has Norris at 1 all the way to 8th in their system.
Its not like they are not nice prospects, but Norris and Balcers are not the blue chip cant miss prospects you would have expected to come back.
The only poopty thing with Norris is that he is a NCAA committed player, so they better do a good job at wooing him out of Michigan to turn pro In the next season or 2 |

Yep, they have a pretty low ranked prospect pool. The sens should have tried to get an A list prospect. I actually am a little intrigued by Balcers though. I realize he isn't highly touted, but 23 goals in his first AHL season seems pretty decent . But I will admit today is the first game I heard his name. |

me too, I didnt know any of those prospect names until today. merkley is their most polarizing prospect. He could be their top skill wise, bc last year at the draft lots of covered mentioned he had the skill to be a Top 5 pick but the guy is just a head case and may never put it all together. Really believe that they guys they grabbed today are just safe slow development bets.
Now I feel like he will make the team and be surrounded by Karlsson, Burns and Vlasic and will be a stud. If you cant learn to be an NHL dman with that around you, |

They’re stacked! If he doesn’t resign by TDL he gets traded for more than they gave up. |

Why would they trade Karlsson if they him and are in a strong position to make a good push for the Cup?
The only thing they'd get back is futures, and that wouldn't help them in their push. |

jesus dude.....karlsson, on that team, paired with Vlasic (i would assume)......he put up 70+ pts in Ottawa and played solid defence on a tire fire of a team, what do you think he's going to do in SJ. i wouldn't be surprised to see an PPG season out of him
if he's healthy, he's EASILY the odds on favorite to win the norris.....ESPECIALLY on a team that's that stacked - sensarmy_11

isles have barzal, and eberle........I think Lee and Bailey are going to take HUGE steps back with the loss of tavares (and nobody to take his place).
i also think barzal will have a big sophmore slump.....nobody there to hide him behind anymore, and i don't think he's ready to be "the guy" - sensarmy_11
I agree. I don't know if I'd call it a sophomore slump for Barzal really, but I think he'll have a good deal less points than last season because Tavares isn't there anymore. Can't blame him for that. |

The Sens entire defensive corps has a smaller cap hit than Karlsson will have in 2019-20. |

I think the preliminary on Pageau is a torn achilles tendon. Gone for up to 6 months.
Brace yourself, the pain is going to go a lot deeper.
Not sure if he is on Ottawa's list for LTIR payment.
Remember, Melnyk said 15 or 16 new roster players by next year and everybody laughed. Should have cried.
Everybody needs to listen very carefully to what Melnyk is saying. This is a controlled crash. We have watched the liquidation of the entire roster of skilled assets. Replacements are marginal players or picks and prospects on entry level deals. More skilled players will be moved.
Problem is everyone wants to evaluate this on the basis of some kind of hockey logic. This is about one thing only. It is about cleaning the books and preparing for the recapitalization (sale) of the franchise and the financing of the largest redevelopment project ever in the downtown Ottawa area. It is a similar business model to what was used in Pittsburgh and Edmonton (only on a far larger scale).
Everyone is going to get a lot more angry with Melnyk. I sense that some of you are now beginning to appreciate the magnitude of what is happening. I say again, hitting bottom is the imperative stage in this process. I don't think it was yesterday. I think there are a few more nasty days ahead. But, we will see the light soon enough.

Of course it is, but this has nothing to do with my post? To be honest, I have no emotions whatsoever anymore, just watching it being played out from the sidelines and see what's left of our beautiful team in a few years. Nothing we can do anyways.
And Tierney > Pageau |

Yes I can imagine. Well at least now there might be money there to pay Stone & Duchene. |

i remember hearing that about merkley too......Bobby Mac was saying that more than half the teams in the league had him on their "do not draft" list, based solely on the fact that he has a terrible attitude and is almost uncoachable.
he's definitely a skilled player, but there isn't the leadership or competence in ottawa to take on a project like that....i'm glad they didn't get him |
