Super excited for the Avs. They need all the help they can get with Sakic running the show.

So, Rust, Sprong and a 2019 1st gets this done easily then..... - RoloTahmasee
In my opinion you don't give that up for a rental, and signed you try at least to get one of the higher paid defenders off the book as well. |

Given the makeup if the Pens, I'd absolutely do that deal. |

Now before any Pens' fan laugh at what Ottawa got in return, just remember what Pittsburgh got for the 2nd leading scorer in hockey history. |

Touché, but at least he once again (2000 with Straka vs. Devils) saved the franchise... getting the dollars off the book.

Different time and place. But yeah, it was quite underwhelming. |

Yeah and it put them on the path of 5 top 5 picks in a row, 3 of which were very strong draft years, resulting in 3 Stanley cups with the best of those drafted players playing key roles.
So what’s good for the goofs is good for the gander. |

A little bit more than that.
Rust Sprong 2 1st round picks (since San Jose has a much better shot at missing playoffs and a premium for trading with east) and another piece.
We should have done it and found a way to sign him. 10 million a year so bye bye hornqvist and Schultz. Seems like a great deal for us. We can ship out those two for likely a 1st each.
So actual costs would be rust sprong hornqvist Schultz and maybe like brassard as the third line center type piece going to Ottawa.
Depth would take a huge hit. We would need to hit the smart vet minimum ufa market hard.
Core of Crosby Malkin kessel guentzel letang karrlson
We would actually clear a little cap if he signed for 10 million. Horn Schultz brassard eat up I believe 14 million. So we would have $2 million per forward for 2 ufa free agent plug in forwards.
EK can likely find better situations in free agency, but San Jose will be competitive even if they are aging. A better situation than Ottawa.
With injury risks I bet EK signs before the season starts. NHL contracts are guaranteed. It might be good logic to wait for the UFA opportunity but he’s signing for $80 million. Simply too much generational money to risks a freak injury on.
If somehow he makes it to UFA I think we should definitely offer 10/year. Find a way to make it work. If the cap rises all we would need to do is let hagelin walk and trade Schultz or hornqvist or Maatta. Maybe both if guentzel higher contract kicks in. Oh well ek is worth it. |

What blows me away is that they probably could have gotten a similar return at the TDL & he traded to a GM that had just made him look like a fckg imbecile on the Hoffman flip. Why would he go back to Wilson & give him the deal?? Maybe Dorian needs one team to land to when he's run out of Ottawa. Besides San Jose who he did good work for, he wont get another job in the NHL after this stint in Ottawa is done. |

dorion will never work as a GM again once he gets canned in ottawa (can't happen fast enough)......but you can almost guarantee he'll get a job, and probably a good one, in a teams scouting department. the guy has a solid eye for drafting. |

Have any of his picks become nhl stars? Or are they just picks that look fancy outside the NHL like every other team? |

he was the driving factor in drafting karlsson (15th), stone (6th rd), hoffman (5th rd), silverberg (2nd rd), dzingel (7th rd), pageau (4th rd), chabot (18th pick), wolanin (4th rd)
he's a (frank)ing awful GM, but he's a good scout |

That was all Bryan Murray. Rip.
He kept that franchise together..nevermind the false Dorion scout hype. If he had an eye for talent he would have brought it in through trades. BM had a knack for drafting talent long before he got to ottawa. He didn't need puppet Dorion. |

maybe.....but dorion was always given a lot of the credit, even by murray. that being said, murray seemed like the kind of guy to give the credit to someone else.
who really knows
i'm sure they were both involved
atleast we can both agree that he's a terrible GM |
