I'm not sure people realize how much of a blessing it's going to be that NJ didn't take Patrick #1.

This kid is the real (frank)ing deal on both ends of the ice, and last year he was only 85% healthy in the second half as a 20 yr old

- Giroux_Is_God

agreed...

what I said in his draft year was that Patrick was a better fit for what the Flyers needed...A big skilled center... not only was his testing off the charts but even Jake and the cloaching staff were talking about how much faster and stronger Patrick looked. jake said, he is a big kid who can really move

Nico is good but he was also playing with Hall and the PP, Patrick was recovering and eased in.

Note from Philly sports network.

This kid Myers has an edge like I have never seen him have before. The jump in his skates is lightning fast, and he is just so tough to beat one-on-one. He is going to be tough to beat out for a spot on the opening night roster, barring injury of course. Myers is the real deal, and the Flyers top brass are licking their chops to give this kid a taste of NHL action. He is well on his way in securing a spot on the opening night roster, as Myers played well during the rookie game on Wednesday.

I know it is just drills but that along with Bill and yeah I am excited to see this kid make it. You can't help get excited for Myers and SanHeim with another year, adding to Provy, Ghost etc. I actually hope Folin Beats out Gudas. The Flyers will finally have size, speed and skill with an edge.

Note on G is that he added added muscle and is faster, keeping up with the kids.

note on Patrick is that his testing is much better than last year due to off-season training and he is stronger and faster...

Yes, I have my Flyer shaded glasses on this AM, it must be the Baileys in my coffee....

- wcorvette

Only thing I differ on is having Gudas return to form from 16-17. He's a better player than Folin imo.

Why hope that Folin beats out Gudas? To my knowledge, Folin is just a depth defenseman. Gudas has been much better than that in the past. Why not hope that Gudas gets him game back together and improves from how he played last year? What would make the Flyers a better team?

I would be happy if Gudas did but I think that means Myers doesnt make it. I think Folin is a little better thab we think, he did play 60 plus games with the Kings last year and down the stretch he played a lot of minutes, he has been a plus player the last 2 seasons. I like his size and reach, something this D just hasnt had in the recent past. You put Myers, Sanheim and Folin in the mix and you have some reach finally. Gudas would have to really being playing well.

My sense is Gudas gets the nod, as vets don't really compete until later in camp and I think Gudas is inked in as part of the top 6

MacDonald is out for most of the first month of the season. There is a spot available to be won.

The Kings have always been a very strong defensive team. Folin is just a depth 6/7 in my opinion until he proves otherwise. Gudas has shown he can be a better player than that.

truth in what you say but you still can't discount what Folin has done. You also can't discount the struggles that Gudas has had. If Gudas does not elevate his game and Folin does, Folin should get the nod. The PK needs something different and Folin does have some skill there. Either way I like the competition, I hope Gudas see's he needs to step it up to keep his spot. If it is close I go with the size. I could be wrong but with how the league has come down on Gudas, he lost the intimidation factor, that was a part of his game, especially since he is just average size and reach for the NHL...

just for you BiggE, Weisestill has a chance to make it

Hockey League. Veteran Dale Weise, another incumbent, also faces competition for his roster spot.

I also think the kid nj took is the real deal. We struck gold getting in the top 2. I jumped out of my seat when the flyers card didn’t come up....but there was one more hurdle to clear and that was getting past pick #3

I think this is phenomenal. I didn’t think he could do this so quickly. He’s basically the size of coburn

I like what I’m hearing about him and looking forward to the preseason. Now is his time. It’s a matter of staying healthy

Can you discount what Gudas has done before last season? I like the competition also but I'm not going to root against a player, Gudas who I know is capable of being a better player than Folin is.
I don't buy the suspension angle at all. I just think Gudas didn't play well and was never able to form chemistry with Manning. He simply had a poor season. Let's see if he bounces back.

Folin is serviceable but it would be much better for the Flyers if Gudas can return to his 16-17 form and Folin can be used in the 7th man/spare D role he was signed for. Considering he's a right hand shot with good size, I'm pretty sure someone would have offered Folin more than 1 year at 700K if he was anything more than a 6/7 Dman.

With AMac out, and Myers looking good, I'm hoping to soon see:

He missed serious time last year due to injury. Not a bust if he doesn’t make the opening night roster, need to tamper expectations.

Against the spread or straight up? I wouldn't say Saints are a safe pick at all against the spread. I like Chargers -7 against Arizona though.
