Gagner and Eriksson stick out as not good enough for consistent offense and definitely not lunch pail types.

No man's land.

232 and 204 in PPG last season. Not good enough for top 9 even. Eriksson is good defensively.

I’ve had a lot of patience with LE during these meaningless rebuild seasons when the PO’s were unrealistic. This year its poop or get off the pot time. I will pick on him til the cows come home if there is no rebound.
- Nighthawk

Apparently he was a stand out in the scrimmage yesterday.

I don't care if he's good defensively. He's soft, so if he's not creating offense then I don't want him out there.

I'm not sure how those two things are comparable. Phoenix traded Domi, I think Virtanen and Domi are comparable players. Minivan asked how Sutter could be a bottom 6 C instead of a top 6 C, I think that this was a reasonable, level headed, realistic response.
- 1970vintage

If JV had the TOI Domi had we would have a better idea of where he is at. Domi transgressed each season. JV was gifted a spot but had less TOI & the same oppurtunity. New season & a new start & he will show he’s matured more.

Yes I do. Archie and Motte suck. And I know you are being sarcastic as there is no way you are a Motte supporter
- CanuckDon

I know the team sucks this year, I just want a team that won't back down, no tweeners who can't produce offense and are small or soft. I'll take the skill of guys like Horvat, Boeser, Pettersson, even Baertschi and potentially Dahlen.

No more Eriksson, Gagner, Granlund, etc if they play like they did last year.

Rather have guys who will at least make life tough for the other team.

Motte is smaller than Minivan. Agree with your post though. No more slow and soft hockey 😡😡
Edit. Motte is a nice kid though. Met him at a concert a few weeks ago and he said he played for the Canucks. I started laughing because he seemed like a shy and very small boy. Real nice guy and I hope he makes it one day!

I can't judge him based on previous play, but he played his heart out in Vancouver last year. If he does the same throughout camp and pre-season, yes I'd take him over soft cream puffs who may score 10-15 more points but will barely be noticeable despite playing 15 minutes in a game.

Establish the culture, even if it means sacrificing some extra offense.

Teams should stop drafting for skill and start drafting for truculence again.

No, keep drafting skill. In fact, focus on drafting skill and speed only.

You can sign ufa vets, claim guys on waivers, sign undrafted rookies for the lunch pail roles.

The radio guys also said "don't count out guys like Archibald and Gaunce, the coaching staff think very highly of them", and "Green name checked Gaunce (along with Beagle) as one of the guys who really killed the fitness testing".

Fitness testing is good, but I want to see these guys play hungry in pre-season. Cut the non-core floaters. Waiver status, career stats and contracts be damned

He and Motte are warrior types, won't take a shift or game off.

Beagle took his spot.

I only count like 4-5 truly talented offensive forwards on this team. The other 8-9 spots should all be up for grabs.

JB traded for him when he had Henrik and Horvat ahead of him. 3LC. Drafted McCann and that didn't work out and with the quick decline of Henrik. Otherwise Sutter probably would still be the 3LC this year. Sutter could still be the 3LC this season if EP or AG show enough.

Really without Sutter it would be Horvat and Beagle as the number 2 center or Van could have traded a bunch of futures for O'Reilly or signed another 30 something year old center to a even larger contract then Sutter.

I won't speak for you but having Sutter around is probably a hell of a lot better then the latter two there.

lol that's exactly what i meant

Well yes, this is a playoff bound team if everyone can poop, if you can't poop then get off the pot.

It also boasts 3 of the top 5 defensemen in the league.
San Jose has 2 of them. Nice luxury too have.
