“Over the last three or four years, I’ve completely revamped my training,” said the Calgary native. “More conditioning, more speed work and less heavy lifting and less bulking up. You still work on strength, but in a different aspect. If you don’t adapt, you get slow-footed and that’s when you’re out because it’s such a speed game.” (Beagle)

This is what I was talking about a few weeks ago. The training for players seems to be changing. I remember in previous years all the younger players doing heavy back squats and power lifting exercises that are hard on wrists, back, shoulders. Hopefully less injuries this season.

Yes I read that, plyometrics is becoming a big part of NHL training, helps with speed and acceleration.

That said, you still need a strong lower body and leg strength is extremely important, it was even important back when I played. Strong legs give you stability and speed as long as you stretch and don't become to rigid. These oak trees belong to Marty St. Louis.

I agree, in three years our top 6 wil be solid and ready for the playoffs, I'm terrified of what our bottom 6 and RHD will look like... but I've been told that, like a budget, it will take care of itself.

I hear the Canucks have opened several locations throughout the city where you can go and they will comfort those fearing and loathing the 4 year cap.

I won't saying you don't need strong legs and core. That's an absolute must for athletes. I think they way they look at the leg strength is different.

Sprinting is actually better for strength in legs then squats are. Just from MDZ instagram. You see a lot of sprinting sled pulls. Squat jumps with bands. Trap bar deadlifts which require less back and hip hinge then normal deadlifts.

Lunges, split squats, step ups that don't require pressure to be placed on the back.

I like Sutter as a bottom six guy, but, if Gaudette and Beagle can show well along with Pettersson becoming an NHL center this makes Sutter expendable. It'll be interesting how this year plays out in terms of the Canucks center positions.

Speaking of leg strength, Sutter is a guy I think of when talking about that as he doesn't appear to have great leg strength. He falls easily and is pushed off the puck down low, but he does use his size properly with a long reach for containment.

This is not new, I've said it many times, I've also stated that if Sutter is in your top six, your team is in trouble. Sutter represents everything that's wrong imo with the Jim Benning tenure, which again, I've stated is why I'm mostly not a Sutter fan.

How could have JB fixed so that Sutter isn't a top 6 center on this team this year?

Eric Engels talking about Bo Horvat's skating coach #leadership #captainmaterial

"I asked Kathy why Bo Horvat has come back seven years in a row. What fresh ideas can they work on at this point? She said he comes every year with very specific ideas and she figures out the best way for him to make the improvements."

Well Benning traded for Sutter realizing that when Hank left he needed a guy that if needed could step into the 2C. As much as you or anyone else who doesn't like it you can kiss Jim's fat pudgy ass.

Sutter can step up if needed for a short time while EP learns , but will more likely be giving him protected minutes and not getting his ass beaten down. Sutter will go against the top lines as will Beagle.

It takes time and like I said earlier I like the looks of this team we just need our young stars to mature.
