Would you rather have Simmonds or Giroux break their hand in a fight?
I want all the guys to stand for each other....but if I have to pick a guy there are some I prefer not to lose in that instance. - J35Bacher
I'd rather no one fight Martin, and someone hit Barzal and Ho-Sang just as hard as Martin hit Sanheim. Much more of a message sent if you know your play got a teammate injured as opposed to getting punched 3-4 times by a guy on skates and then sitting down for 5 minutes.
He'll play the majority of games, if healthy. It depends on what the team does standings-wise. If Ryan Reaves got moved for a 1st round pick, and then got traded at the TDL, Martin has to be worth at least a 2nd rounder and teams obviously still covet that kind of player. - jmatchett383
I mean Martin also can kill penalties so it's not like he is totally useless.
By hitting a vulnerable player and getting a penalty? - J35Bacher
Do you think his coach (trotz) has a problem with the play? That’s the only thing Martin should be concerned about and I’m pretty sure I know the answer based on style of play trotz teams play by

This is what I would prefer. Go out there and lay some hard clean hits on one of their kids. Honor satisfied.

And I am fine with that. I believe my initial post was for the Flyers to have that hitting tonight.
I laugh because every description I hear of this play was entirely wrong. - MBFlyerfan
No, I'm saying it wasn't wrong. But it was a player a foot from the boards with his head down who was hit hard by a much a bigger player. Luckily, he wasn't injured.

I think the problem is just that the Flyers are a small team. Look at Winnipeg. They are fast and skilled but also pretty damned big. That's the kind of team I want. It's why I can't wait for guys like Allison, Ratcliffe and Lacyzinski to (hopefully) enter the lineup.
Giroux and TK are special players and I think Frost will be the same. But I can't wait to see guys like Weal, Leier, Laughton, etc replaced by bigger and better players.

That, and you know Martin has to toe the line in order to be successful, there is an intimidation factor he has to play with.

For sure. Morin throws a hard, but perfectly legal check and Farnham goes after him because basically that's the only reason a guy like that is in the lineup.

Martin was traded for Eamon McAdam a couple of months ago. I don't know how his trade value already increased to 2nd rounder.

Last season in Toronto he played 50 games averaging 7:59 in ice time, and didn't kill penalties at all.

And my issue was that, regardless of the cleanliness/legality of the hit, the team YESTERDAY should have played that way. I don't care if it was a bunch of 19-year-olds or 28-year-olds, the team should have responded immediately, not waited untilt he next night.

Actually he was right up against the boards, and it was a textbook hit.

You do realize that a foot is 12 inches, right? That's an incredibly small distance. If he was "right up against the boards," friction would have caused him to lose speed.

He was also on a roster that had much more offensive firepower than the roster on which he currently resides. He's also playing for a coach who has a different philosophy.
Not saying he's going to play 70 games, but he's in a better position for ice time.

Exactly. He was already touching the boards when contact was made.

I agree but Ratcliffe is a big kid that I’m not seeing much physicality from yet
I think you'll be surprised how many games he plays. I could see him getting about 10-14 minutes a night - J35Bacher
No I won’t be surprised as I would have liked to see Ronald acquire him and someone similar. He is solid 4th line player if that’s the type of 4thr line you want to employ
Just won’t get 70 is all and that’s for a variety of reasons.
