exposing different players to waivers/trades instead.
Gaunce/Archibald/Granlund - Codes1087
Way as well send JD and others to save assets until Injuries. Give them a few games and big ice in Utica. If the guys suck in the NHL and no injuries waive them. No one will pick up our nhl garbage especially if they start bad. Right now, there’s still
Hope around them.

I would rather players who deserve to play on the canucks, play on the canucks, at the expense of losing scraps to waivers, than to send down a kid who deserves it, just to save the scraps of their feelings, or being claimed. |

Upside to losing any player to waivers is gain a contract slot |

I agree if it’s really obvious. But if we give gaunce, granlund, a few games to prove in the real NHL....it’s 10 games. Either prove you can or you’re gone. If they step up, we can try and trade or wait for injury. If they don’t we can be very confident they suck as much as we all think. Would hate to waive to early. Then kids struggle in the NHL regular season and we lose a Guy or two that could play.
The younger guys will get their chance no matter what. 10 games Or so won’t be bad.
Is someone BB it this Pre season we make room. But the chance that 4-5 guys do is low. |

if a team makes a waiver claim, on say gaunce/Archibald, they must be in dire straights to be needing a 4th line winger/center if they do indeed put in a claim. No team is going to claim a 4th line fringe player with the intention of putting them on waivers again, as the Canucks can re-claim and directly assign to the AHL. So in terms of Gaunce/Archibald, I wouldn't care if they get claimed, cause it won't be long before they go back on waivers from a different team. |

At this point, they will certainly have to expose some players to waivers, they simply have too many. If they loose a player like Granlund, you know they are going to need to replace him later in the season because of injuries. Do you believe they will find a better player on the waiver list later in the season? Just send Dahlen, Gaudette et al down and then bring them up slowly during the course of the season. |

my thoughts on losing players to waivers is this. If the player you are worried about going waivers, can crack a top 5 team in either the west, or east roster (not as the 13th or 7th), than you may have a right to worry. If they can't, than you shouldn't worry. |

if Gaudette and Dahlen are better than Archibald and Gaunce, then give the player who deserves it, the chance to play on the club, and expose those players to waivers.
EDIT - I should say at the risk of losing the other players to waivers, as Dahlen and Gaudette are waiver ineligible. |

Generally, the top 5 teams have very strong top 9 players, and the ones who have been good for a while have poor prospect pools because they pick so late. Remember all the years of great Canuck teams with terrible 4th lines? Our scraps are actually better than scraps from the top teams. |

I just explained it, if you can't read you really are an idiot
For example, do you think 24 year old Brendan Gaunce would be an upgrade to the Sharks 4th line over 38 year old Joel Ward? Similar ppg numbers, obviously less leadership... |

Joel Ward is currently on a PTO with the habs.. Please use current scenarios/examples vintsy
Do you think Gaunce can beat out a spot on the Lightning, Jets or Preds?
Edit - and whats with the bold above? today is a day to be excited over preseason, not grumpy and disgruntled vintsy. I am disappointed in you. |

Jets have been bad for a long time until now, but he might be able to bump a guy like Brandon Tanev out of a job. In Tampa he might be able to steal a spot from a guy like Paquette, and in Nashville Salomaki, or Hartnell. What I'm saying is that teams at the top, generally speaking, rely on depth signings and waiver pick ups to round out the bottom of their roster. Canucks are full of those types of players. If someone is going to get claimed, I would expect it was from a good team as opposed to a bottom feeder like the Canucks. |

we can agree to disagree without getting into the name calling their vintsy, you were better than that. The Jets/Preds were mediocre/bad in the past, but I am talking about today, not the past.
I think good/great teams rely on ELC's to fill out the middle/bottom of their line up. Chicago did it during their window of winning the cup, pens have done the same. I personally don't think gaunce/Archibald/granlund are players I would be willing to lose sleep over if we lost them, but that's just me. I think there are better ways for top teams to round out their roster, than to claim fringe 4th line players from bottom 10 teams, just me though. |

Could get interesting in here, when final cuts are made.
The asset management crowd, or the play the youth crowd, will be disappointed.
Looking forward to the hysteria, when Gaunce, Granlund, Goldobin, Archibald, Nilsson etc get waived, or when Dahlen, Gaudette, Juolevi, Demko, or Palmu get sent down to Utica.
Should be a lot of fun in here when either scenario happens. |
