He’s (frank)ing arguing over a 1-yr/650k contract...oh my god he has mental issues.
- Steven_Seagull

It takes two to argue.
Ennis isnt a great player.
But at 650k, who gives a fack.
If he sucks, bye.
If hes decent, well then, great for the leafs for the season and playoffs.
Either way. Who gives a fack.
Jt is playing tonight!
All that matters.

They got rid of the guys who only hit. I'm saying, grab a guy with some sand paper who has some skill too. Brouwer is a multiple time 20 goal scorer, played on fast teams before, crash and bang character guy. I'd rather give him a 1 year deal than Ennis. At least you're adding something different to the team instead of another small guy who'll get thrown around or injured when the games get tough in the playoffs.
- Unholy_Goalie

Brouwer sucks big time. You have to be kidding.

If Damien Cox and Steve Simmons had a child, it'd be UG.

Not if he's on the team. If he's with the Marlies, where he should be, it's no problem. If he's taking a spot away from a younger guy or a better UFA, it hurts the team.
- Unholy_Goalie

If he's on the team, you can be sure that he's the best option - all things considered - for that spot...

Don't you complain about Hyman? If you think Hyman sucks playing with high end skill guys, wait until you see Brouwer.
- Wissler

Brouwer at least scored 20+ and has some weight to throw around.

But I'm not saying play him 18+ min a night. I'm saying as a 4th liner who can pop up the line-up occasionally, I'd rather have a guy with size, grit, toughness and a touch of skill than an undersized, injury prone player who hasn't scored much the past 3 years.

Brouwer has 38 goals in the past 3 years. Ennis has 16. Brouwer could literally do everything Martin can (the few positives that were there, hitting, fighting, veteran leadership) but actually score sometimes if you put him in front of the net.
- Unholy_Goalie

Guys who suck can't provide veteran leadership.

No kid wants to hear the "life lessons" of a guy who should really just be shutting his yap and trying to work his way into the lineup, instead of being a drag on the team.

Cheat sheet:

Older player who is good = veteran leadership
Older player who is not good = unable to provide veteran leadership

The Leafs didn’t sign the right veteran at league minimum for one year! Sure, the guy I wanted was still signed with his team and wouldn’t be bought out until almost a month after, but that won’t stopped me from arguing about it! Clearly this deal will cripple the Leafs. Might as well tank now. Season over. And that’s that!
- Steven_Seagull

Fair assessment ...another disastrous season for the Leafs. #UGNo'sBest

The Leafs arent going to be that team anymore. Wanting guys who are tough, big and can fight are not in the plans anymore. The leafs want 12 forwards who can skate, generate shots, and can control entry into the offensive zone. If you want the tough truculent Brian Burke style team, this isn't it anymore.

Just completing my online course to be a certified trainer on the bench.

Holy frank, what a waste of time.

Just sat through 15 minutes of videos on static stretching - great advice if this was still 1978.

Did they crunch the numbers that he as 16 goals in the past 3 years combined? Or that he's a career 45.5 CF%? Maybe they forgot those numbers. Seems like they did.

There's nothing that Ennis brings to the table that the Leafs don't already have in their system in the form of young prospects. Rather have Grundstrom play 82 games than waste a contract on Ennis.

Having 12 guys that do the exact same thing is just as stupid in either direction. The game is played different ways on different teams using different styles. If you do too much of one thing, opposing teams will counter act that by being more balanced. Having 12 guys just crash and bang is just as stupid as having 12 speed and skill guys. You need a mix of both. Nobody is saying the Leafs need to subtract the speed and skill but they definitely need to start adding some size, grit, toughness into their lineup because when you play those crash and bang teams, like Boston, it won't be so easy to just skate by them, especially in the playoffs.

Boston is also getting rid of their slow crash and bangers for smaller more skilled players. Mcquaid gone, Schaller gone, both Nash's gone, if they could find someone to take Backes for free hes gone too. Not to mention the previous purge of Lucic, Beleskey, Hayes.

No doubt, can't have a full team of them, but can't have a team that is small, weak and one-dimensional either.
