Historically, camp hold-outs haven't done well. I would think he's anxious to get out there asap. - gravyface
Better off trading him for a top pair RHD anyway. |

You're persistent, I'll give you that.
If it was like Karlsson for Nylander, I'd totally do that in a heartbeat. Hell, we could've cobbled together Grunstrom, Leivo, Bracco and a couple of picks for EK from the sounds of it. |

If a player has decided he's going to hold out for more money, missing pre-season games isn't much of a big deal. - Unholy_Goalie
Who knows if it’s him or his agent/Dad. They both have a history of riding it out.
In all honesty I would be nervous if I was nylander and I’m not trying to take anything away from him. He is an amazing player and deserves the 6.5-7.25 long term contract, but if someone else gets a chance to play with Matthews I think they can excel too. Just look at hyman. |

We are set at every other position except top pair RHD and the day they signed Tavares, Nylander became expendable. With or without Nylander, the Leafs will score goals. Without a top pair RHD, beating Tampa Bay for the foreseeable future looks unlikely. |

Even if he settles at 6.5-7, I'd rather spend that money on defense and replace Nylander with the money we get from Marleau retiring. |

What kind of market is out there for Nylander?
Who would give up said RHD? and would he mesh with Rielly or Zaitsev?
Oh man training camp is an excellent time to sort out some of this HOT mess. |

Very few teams. That's precisely why I was so insistent they go get Karlsson; guys like that just don't become available often.
Look at what San Jose gave up for Thornton. Look what they gave up for Karlsson. Look at what they have now because of it. You have to strike when the opportunity presents itself. Would they have paid the same price as San Jose? Hell no. But if the offer was good enough, it would have been worth it for both sides.
But now that you mention Rielly, perhaps the move is to move Nylander for a LHD and move Rielly+ for a RHD. Depending who you get in return, that could work out as well. |

They moved offense for defense not long ago to get Jones. I doubt they move Jones now.
Pietrangelo has 2 years left on his deal, maybe there's a possibility there.
Maybe an outside chance at Subban but that'd be a bigger gamble for a few reasons. |

The move is to sign nylander, cause we don’t have any replacement wingers with his talent or ceiling. |

Bullpoop. They have plenty of scoring wingers in the system. Scoring wingers also become UFAs more often than top pairing RHD. They got Kessel for draft picks once upon a time, there's no reason they couldn't do that again if need be and this time the timing would actually be right for it. They have Matthews, Tavares and Marner, all three capable of making players around them better than they are. Nylander became surplus the day they signed Tavares. |

This is an important contract..it sets the tone for Marner and Matthews |
