The closest comparable players to the Nylander situation are Ehlers, Forsberg and Pastrnak. They make 6 million, 6 million and 6.66 million respectively. Forsberg and Pasta are better. Nylander to closer to Elhers. I say 6.5 million for Willie. Take it or ride the pine... |

Agreed.
And I'm not particularly worried - I get the feeling that Leafs management is going to be ball-crushingly hard in these negotiations. |

Nylander > Marner at EV. - Dongull_Trump
Nylander can't carry Marners jock strap. At the end of there careers I believe Marner will be far better. At every level Marner has excelled. Was magic in London. |

I dunno man, I just like the Leafs...and I like the Leafs good players...its such a weird Fan thing to me to hate or dislike players like that.
I do have a Marner Jersey..but he doesnt deserve 11 mil |

The Leafs would love that number. I don't think they get him at that number on a deal over 5 years.
5 yr/$33M would be good for both sides.
Leafs probably want that number over 8 years, Nylander probably over 4 years

Lord knows I loved pissing on Bozak.
But I have to give the guy some credit: his numbers remained remarkably consistent after Kessel left.

Then why is everyone here handing him 7 million plus per season? Is he even a core piece? Maybe? Maybe not? I think he is replaceable through upcoming players or ufa's |

I don't dislike the guy... just don't like seeing the current Nylander open spot wasted on him (my opinion).
personally, I think they should have brought Plekanec back... I could have hated him easily. |

Unless I've missed something since.... Let's not forget that "Nylander asking for 8mil" is solely a product of Darren Dreger "asking around to other GM's what they think he'd ask for".... |

To be fair, the Toronto star reported it too;
So, unless Dreger has a side gig at the Toronto Star, more than 1 person is reporting it. |

on an 8 year deal..sure 7... I would prefer he gets 8 years..and 7 mil is value over that term
again..its very important how many years..the number changes |

if I was looking for 6.5 or 7 mil... Id ask for a higher number than that.
I think thats how negotiating works |

8 years/7M per is a very good value deal.. I honestly think that Nylander will outperform that in less than 3 years. |

I have no expertise in the area but I figured RFA negotiations was "here's a comparable" and not like arbitration where you throw out a moonshot? |

Give him 2yr/$5m - then play him on the 4th line and see what kind of #'s he puts up for the next contract. |

The issue doesnt appear to be money, but term.
6-6.5 is bang on for him. |

Remember how a rebuilding Sabres team gave up a 3rd rounder to just speak with Vesey? - RogerRoeper
My favourite part was Garf saying that it was a guarantee that he was signing with the Sabres just because they traded for his rights.
With all the Murrency the Sabres had, it was a shrewd move by the riverboat gambler, GMTM. |
