Frost and Ratcliff sent back to juniors. Sorry if I'm late.

We'll always have all those posts here with Frost penciled in as 3C tho

Who takes the faceoff on Giroux's off wing or when he gets bounced...Simmonds or JvR?
- Glak18

That's a good point and an argument for Couturier on the first unit.

Predictable.

Both looked like guys who needed another year for sure. I know just couple games but Ratcliffe last night really didn't engage in the game much for a guy his size and Frost still looked a little timid in the first game.

No big deal. Both should have big years

My first unit would be

Giroux
Voracek
Simmonds
JVR
Gostisbehere.

- MJL

If Simmonds is replaced by anyone within the role that he’s made a name for himself since 2012, the Flyers are being unfair to him. Simmonds outside of getting hurt last season has not shown he cannot produce at his regular rate.

Unfair?

This is a business. You put out there the best 5 setup. It's not like van Riemsdyk hasn't made a name for himself scoring goals on the PP.

Like it or not, this year Simmonds role could be a little smaller then previous years.

I won't be shocked if the Flyers roll with PP units of:

G
JVR
Coots
Jake
Ghost

Patrick
Simmonds
TK
Sanheim/AMac
Provorov

Try to get as close to a 1:15 to 0:45 split for TOI. Of course the first unit might get longer if they get sustained pressure.

Yes! Unfair!

Wayne Simmonds has been the best net front presence since 2012. So what’s the best line up if he isn’t put out there on the first unit.

Explain...

van Riemsdyk in front with Giroux and Voracek on the half walls. Couturier or Patrick high slot. Gostisbehere top of umbrella.

Simmonds was great. He can still have a solid season. Just not sure his role will be as big moving forward.

A lineup that would have had him traded -back on draft day.

Simmonds has arguably been the best net front PP forward in the league for a number of years. Has that changed?

What has changed is the addition of JvR who can also do the same job very well as was seen last night.

Does that mean you can't make a change and still be productive?

I feel like people are more worried about Simmonds then the team.

I don't care who is the net front guy as long as they produce.

And yes things have changed. Prior to this year they didn't have van Riemsdyk. So there is a new variable that needs to be added as we aren't sure exactly who will be used i the net front role.

Yea, they added a new player but how does that change Simmonds ability?

If you notice, I haven't once knocked JVR's ability. The question is why is he better than Simmonds is? I don't believe that he is. He may not be worse either. We have to see what the coaching staff chooses to do.
Is it possible that some see Simmonds as the best choice for the spot and therefore the best decision for the team. I also think it plays into what the best decision for the future is involving Simmonds and his future with the team.
