Both Appleton AND Roslovic have won puck battles with McDavid so far. I’m a proud mom. |

agreed - discussions on these players also get distorted because Rexypoo often writes using absolute terms leaving no middle ground where reasonable discussion takes place. - 2.0
I think we have all been guilty of using absolute terms, we are passionate fans |

I essentially defend all the players the fairweathers hate.
We’re all hardcore fans, but most of us come at the debates from different angles, with Jetsnation and I representing the ends of the spectrum.
My problem is that I’ve seen virtually non-stop hate for Enstrom, and others, for years now. So when a name I love gets brought up here negatively, I’m a lot more defensive than I would be with a detractor of Morrissey or Laine.
Enstrom, Dano, Petan, Postma, Trouba, Perreault, etc. are all players the fairweathers talk sh*t about on Facebook and Twitter and wherever. These are also the same people who blindly love the Tanevs, Hendricks...es, and Chiarot’s of the game, just because Don Cherry and the old boys club tells them to, and because they hit more.
I see so much nonsense spouted off everywhere else that when I come here and see the same basic sentiment, I get a bit pissed off, regardless of whether or not a good point is being made.
I love the debates, I love having my theories and views challenged, and I occasionally enjoy being a smarmy Richard. I also love my smaller, skilled underdog players the average fan wouldn’t have time for, and have an active bias against anything I think Jim Benning, Randy Carlyle, or Don Cherry might like.
All of that rounds up to this: I will happily argue a case for or against any Jet at any time, but if you try and tell me Tanev is better than Dano, and that’s why Dano shouldn’t be a regular, I will burn down your house. - Rexypoo
Rexy I have to disagree with you about the players you mentioned getting ripped on Facebook and Twitter.
I find that with certain players it’s really 50/50 with the fan base but the people who are very pro analytics always try to come across as being in the minority like it’s special or cool to be different and have an opinion unlike the masses, when in reality they don’t.
In here, yes you are in the minority but that hasn’t been what I’ve seen on social media, much more 50/50 on those players
And for the record the correct answer in those players is this,
Myers- third pairing D
Dano- bottom 6 guy but easily replaceable
Perreault- good play driver but I’ve seen a quicker release from a pez dispenser
Petan- honesty jury’s still out
Tanev-4th liner as easily replaceable as Dano
😜😜👌

Cute BS story. Please explain why you constantly bash Maurice, Chevy, Myers, Chariot, Tanev, Hendricks, Wheeler on occasion, Little , Lemieux, etc etc. Your much more of a troll than a Jet fan . - jetsnation
You forgot to mention Stanley as well. He was declared a "bust" last year by Rexy. |

Quick note,
I know it’s only been 4 periods thus far of pre season hockey but I’ve thought Vesalainen has already shown much more potential and natural ability over Appleton. When you also take into account he is a full three years younger, it’s not really close when trying to decide who to invest a roster spot and time on.
Not that anyone asked for my Appleton vrs Vesalainen opinion but there it is anyway. |

As a first round pick, yes, he is a bust. Now that doesn’t mean he won’t ever play in the NHL as a bottom pairing guy but if your franchise makes a habit of drafting fourth liners in the first round, you’re in trouble!!!
Update, the first two Oiler goals tonight do not help Stanley’s case. Ouch!!! |

Still a bust. Just a bust working really hard to be not a bust, and making impressive strides towards non-bust territory. |

Also, I Dano about you folks, but I think this pre-season performance will Marko the occasion a certain player locked in a full time spot |

Having your pocket picked by McJesus, who is one of the top NHL players that have been in the leaque 4 years, and Stanley who just finished Junior is not going to be a determining factor in career development.
So what sbout Trouba coughing it up earlier, maybe he should go sit on the bench. Your comment bears no logic, |

This was good, and Dano has been good but do you have the courage to admit Lemieux has been as good? Cause he has! |

Yes he is but why play with a ringette stick that can not shoot a puck? |

I agree with you about two goals not determining his future, I just said the first two goals didn’t help his case? Am I wrong?
Also, no logic? So making a habit of drafting fourth liners in the first round is good? Or can a person not call a first round pick who never plays higher than 3rd pair a bust? Can I ask if you have a Sergie Bautin jersey in your closet?
Update, make that 3 goals of his man scoring. Was it McDavid all three times? Don’t think so.

I don't think anyone actually beleives Stanley has a hope in hell making the big team, but two goals with Mcdavid stealing one away will never be a determining factor in how a player develpps or their projection of stepping from the A up to the bigs.
They knew he was a project when they drafted him. The pundits were talking today how he improved his speed, and has worked on the areas that the coaching staff wantded him to improve upon. He needs time with the Moose. |

Stanley has been terrible tonight. Top three players for the Jets have clearly been Roslovic, Tanev, and Lemieux. Spacek can pack his bags, Appleton has shown nothing. Niku also has looked questionable. Dano has been invisible all game except the few seconds when he scored. He was also a goat on one goal. The Lowry ,Copp ,Tanev line has been excellent. No ones breaking up that line.

I will agree that Roslovic and Lemieux look about the best aside from the regulars like the 4th line and the first pairing D. I am acutally impressed the Jets are hanging in there against the top two Oiler lines. |

Trouba whiffed on a pass, as many players have tonight.
Stanley made multiple bad decisions all over the place.
Non-comparable. |

Hey jets Nation, this is pretty typical for me and you. We always seem to be 50/50, lol
I agree with you about Stanley, Roslovic, Lemieux and also think the Lowry line won’t be split up and has looked good.
Although I haven’t thought Tanev has played as well as you.
Dano has been as good as anyone.
I have liked the Poolman/Niku pair and they seem head and shoulders above Morrow/Stanley tonight
I also agree Appleton and spacek have shown nothing. And can be reassigned
Feel a little bad for Lipon, in that he’s not getting much ice but there are just way too many guys ahead of him on depth chart.

Btw, the point of Stanley is actually directed towards Rexy, who gives a heart felt narrative of how he roots for the underdog, supporting the smaller players who are not given a fair chance by the coach, and misaligned by the hater fans, but then has no problem declaring someone a bust. So, delete Stanley and insert someone else's namethere. The point was Rexy professes to be this great fair advocate but does exactly the same thing that he is calling out.
So, you missed that one. Stanley is going to the Moose, and there are numerous first round picks playing the A so he is a project and the Jets knew it. |

I think Ty Rattie may be an excellent dark horse type pick in your hockey pool. Honorable mention to Puljujarvi. The big question mark will be how much PP time they get. |

"TLC" line looked really good last night
Basically, the Oil dressed a near opening night roster and we dressed the Moose ... Jets hung in for 2 periods and got blasted in the 3rd ... for 2 periods I was howling at how well our prospect group looked ... then Draisaitl & McJesus took it over
As mentioned, I think Roslo gets the keys to drive the 3rd line ... if he's gonna be the guy - give him the line right away
My guess presently is that the only forward spot open to a prospect is 3RW ... Appleton, Lipon, Griffith only righty's left, I believe (if that matters) ... could our opening night 3rd line be:
Perrault - Roslo - Appleton ?
Perrault - Roslo - Lemieux ?

Pretty sure it will be Dano despite him lacking the performances of others night last night. I think he only touched the puck 4 or 5 times last night and not for very long. Compare that to Tanev who had the puck on his stick all night. Nonetheless, Maurice does reward hard work and Dano realized he needed to be in much better shape and took the summer seriously and has putting in the extra time working on the flaws he admitted to having in his game. Here is Maurice's latest comments which I'm sure most have read by now....
"He (DANO) is going to get a certain benefit of the doubt, based on the way that he handled the year. We haven’t had that a whole lot, where we stayed pretty healthy for stretches or guys came in and I didn’t take them out. He just lost minutes to other guys. But he handled it so well. He worked so hard and then he went home and did what we asked him to do. So he’s going to get some room to play on that," Maurice said Thursday.
However, the coach cautioned goodwill will only go so far, and Dano's play will ultimately determine how this season goes for him.
"You’re going to put your best lineup out on opening night, so… it’s not a free ride to a job," said Maurice. "(Dano) has made some big improvements in his game, and the (caveat) though is that the other players coming in are good players, too. Those decisions that are going to get made are tough and it’s going to be real close."
Pretty sure Dano will get that spot. It's his for the taking so long as he doesn't screw up. Vesalainen and Lemieux are clearly right there on his heels. It just shows there is no conspiracy theory or hate for Dano by Maurice as some have suggested. Dano just wasn't good enough last year. Now that he's gotten serious about the game and his career this may be his final chance. |

It just may be Dano !
Hey Rexy - if that's the case, I hope the kid proves me so wrong I'll be embarrassed to all sh_t and have egg on my face and wonder how I ever missed it

He is still a bust. That remains true, and historically speaking, Tyler Myers is the absolute highest ceiling possible for Stanley. All of his comparables have fewer than 100 NHL games, excluding Myers.
I’ve said repeatedly that I want to be wrong inn Stanley, and hope he makes it. I’ve said repeatedly he’s developing way faster than I expected, and I’m impressed with his improvement.
I’m also comfortable, and correct, in declaring him a bust. A first rounder with a 3rd pairing ceiling isn’t great. |
