Looking at Dano's body of work.....its not very impressive. He got hot for part of a season. Big deal !

Some players peak much earlier than others and Petan hasn't improved relative to peers since his draft year.

I think the Jets are set up to jettison (pun intended) one of Petan or Dano and Petan is the early favourite to go. I expect to see him waived. No sense wasting time complicating a deal by adding Kulikov, though I wouldn't mind Edler as second line d.

To OTT: Petan, conditional 2020 1st round pick (Condition being Duchene signs in Winnipeg or else it become a 2020 3rd round pick)

Not sure how we could afford to re sign Duchene with Connor, Laine and finger crossed Trouba contracts. Even with Trouba gone, I dont see $ to add Duchene

realistically we are counting on Roslovic progressing to #2a center status with Little as 2b. A rental center at the deadline is probable.

third round picks have more value than you think, don't forget, no one even drafted tanev and everyone offered him a two way league min deal, when we got him so its not like his market is huge or impressive.
- Ross77

Seriously , you may see little value in him but I think Maurice and most fans including myself see him as being a very pleasant surprise for the Jets since we beat out several other teams to land him. He brings it each and every night with a full effort on every shift. He has top-notch speed and always finishes his checks, blocks shots, excellent on the PK, great forechecker, and was also a very good performer in the playoffs for the Jets. He also knows how to finish as seen by his hattrick. There is a huge gap between Tanev and Dano in terms of an overall player. Dano has had similar chances on the third and fourth line and done absolutely nothing. It's not at all close.

generally I agree with you, however, I think Dano and others are close in terms of the skills they bring - though not necessarily the same skills. It's not a huge gap but it is a competitive one and Tanev competes harder.

It's not congruent to believe that Chevy and scouting team are among the best at drafting yet somehow failed by choosing Dano in the Ladd trade. There is something in Dano's skill set that is desirable and with upside. There is no one in the bottom six and down who is not expendable if the right deal is there. If it's Tanev another team wants in a deal for a #4 d, the Jets would consider that because they have guys like Dano who are close.

I think it will be telling in the pre-season to watch who PoMo has killing penalties. They no longer have Armia and someone has to take that spot on the PK. Pretty much everyone killed penalties last night but that will change and will be more telling of who gets the final roster spot.

He’s consistently produced at a 2nd line rate. He didn’t get hot for part of a season, he got minutes for part of a season.

He’s literally the worst regular penalty killer in the NHL (with Hendricks likely not making the Wild).
He does use his speed to get to the puck first, but often loses the battles.
Shot blocking and hitting as often as he does with the low minutes he gets means he spends a ton of time without the puck, and lacks the skill to prevent shots.
A hat trick is fun, but it’s not a great sign when it represents 50% of your production for an entire season.

Dano has also absolutely not had the same chances as Tanev. Tanev LITERALLY LAST SEASON was allowed to kill our 2nd line in the playoffs for a game. Dano barely played at all, period. Tanev has been force fed prime opportunities for as long as he’s been here, and he’s still being fed minutes with Lowry he doesn’t deserve, and barrel rolling all over our zone on the PK.

Petan literally just carried Appleton to rookie of the year award, while leading a top AHL team in scoring...

Is this a joke? You realize that Appleton played 24 games without Petan, so not sure how Petan carried him. You might as well say Roslivic carried him as well.

I'm also not sure how Petan led the team in scoring, that's just a totally false statement. Fake News! Do Better

He has never been a point producer at any level - Slovak league, KHL, AHL or NHL. He got on a John Druce like roll for part of a season on a lousy team. Done nothing since.

Useless as the G in lasagna !

Good quote, I will have to use that one some day!

Guys, there is a problem here and it is really how many spots are available? One, perhaps two positions? There is an opening on the third line and possibly one on the fourth (and the 4th is a long shot to beat out Tanev and or Copp).

It’s too early yet with such a small sample, but you can here PoMo’s intrigue with Vesalainen. Let’s say Vesalainen sticks with the big club, and the 4th stays intact, then we carry most likely Dano as a spare and everyone else back to the Moose. If Vesalainen doesn't stick, I think its Dano's position with perhaps Lemieux or Petan in the press box.

Either way, its slim pickins for available positions on the big club unless some surgery occurs like Pistol Pete suggests.

Lemieux is bang on to suggest this might be one of the hardest lineups in the NHL to crack.

His numbers fell off away from Petan. By a sizeable margin.

Petan also carries the highest PPG average on the team, which is what I was referring to.

He’s been a point producer in the NHL, and in the AHL. You are displaying a critical lack of understanding of both rate of production, AND the roles pre-draft players tend to get on top level teams overseas. His KHL numbers are from 4th line minutes.

I disagree the G in the lasagna is important, it helps makes that "ye" sound. Kind of like Gagner, where it helps makes that "ye" sound again.

Your statements are laughable. Every scouting report on Mason Appleton says that he makes the players around him much better. Same was true so far on the Moose. If anything as center on the top line, he carried Petan.

BTW. Roslovic was top PPG player on the Moose.

Yep, McJags is correct.....more fake news form Rexy.

Open up the window in the basement, let some fresh air in.
You may be getting too much carbon monoxide.

It's always every excuse in the book to try and cover the reality that Rexy has absolutely no idea how to evaluate talent.

Perhaps I have missed it, but I was waiting for his take on Dano losing 15 lbs in the off-season.

Fake news, LOL.

Anyways, the more I think about it, there has to be some surgery going forward. There are virtually no openings available except one hole on the third line right now.

Petan, Vesalainen, Lemieux, Dano are all working hard for this last spot so something's got to give. Seriously, I think the front runners for this spot on line 3 is either Vesalainen or Dano. Special mention for Appleton, but a bit more seasoning won't hurt him on the Moose.

But, for these other guys that are not successful for the position, they are not going to be happy about going back to the Moose. I agree with 2.0, it is setting up for someone to get jettisoned in hopefully a trade. I think if Petan, Dano or Lemieux get waived, they will get picked up. It would be nice to get something in return if possible if that turns out to be the direction.

Ovechkin lost 17 lbs last season and Laine lost 15 lbs this off-season. And most importantly, I lost 14 lbs this off-season

I have to say the weight reduction has increased my energy, focus, motivation and it also added that extra oomph in the bedroom

I hope Dano is experiencing the same benefits.

That's REAL news!

You can see the difference more on his face than on the ice. Although from the limited sample size he does look quicker. Dano might now be in a position to help the Jets by having some trade value.

We already established he is worth less than a third-round pick. My guess has always been a 5th round pick. So far its looking pretty good to be correct.
