I think they will be cautious about loosing players they feel still have a future for nothing, and will start most of the young guys in Utica. I think this because of what Weisbrod said the other day. They are aware of Corradogate, and the mistake they made with Virtanen/McCann.

I think the team will be a step quicker, I think they will generally be more entertaining to watch. Mostly because the twins are gone and one fourth of the playing time won’t rely on cycling the puck non stop.

I think the PP will drop a few places in the overall standings, and the team will struggle to score goals consistently. 4 one game, shut out another, 7 the next game etc. As Pettersson gets more comfortable, and the season progresses it will get better.

I think they will finish with more points than last year, but finish lower in the standings. Overall I think the league will be better, and some of the teams they were fighting for the bottom last year improved a bit more than the Canucks did.

Looking forward to another high draft pick(s), some growing pains and some late season roster turnover.

Why do you keep including Archie? He’s a great story and all, but he will likely be the Captain in Utica this season.
- 1970vintage

if we are talking about players who may or may not take a spot away from other players on the roster, than I think they should be included in the conversation. He didn't seem to have a problem playing consistently last season with younger players in and out of the press box.

They certainly are the opposite of the hate vortex on TSN.

They try to sound impartial but as the official broadcaster of the team there must be some positive spin requirements.

I totally get what you are saying, and don't disagree. I would have to argue tho, that despite the "want" for management to get an asset in return for these players instead of losing them to waivers, I don't think its always that easy. I think most NHL teams often pick up the phone and gauge interest on players before they decide to put them on waivers. I imagine its a last resort.
- Codes1087

It's the timing of 'last resort' that we're talking about. All teams will be judging their organizational depth and prospect pool over the next few weeks. Some will determine that they don't have the pieces needed to keep pace and make the playoffs, whether that's due to injuries or lack of development with their own younger players.

Just because Benning said they will make room for kids, doesn't mean it has to be for opening night. If he can get a third round pick for Granlund by keeping Dahlen in the minors until Christmas, he's got to do it.

this happens every single year though. As teams start to make adjustments to their opening night roster, the list of players who go on waivers to make room is quite large. We will soon see lists of 10-15 players a day, or 2-3 players per team at a time, go on waivers.

edit - I do see what you mean by keeping waiver exempt players in Utica to start the season rather than waiving them to star the year. I agree, its most likely what we see to start.

MDZ selling out the young guys on the team and their addiction to fortnite on the road. Team is thinking about banning the game. MDZ and veterans generally play Mario cart on the plane, but think its more important to be at team dinners and such on road trips, rather than hotel fortnite sessions.

gaunce, granlund, gagne, leipsic, goldobin are the waiver guys that are on the bubble imo. and i would rank their chances from most likely waived to least in that order too

its probably the one thing that everyone in here is united on, and that being a high draft pick this season, ups and downs across the map for this team, and hopefully some growth for some of the new guys coming in.

I would take Gagner out, I don’t believe they would waive him.

i think hes untradeable and most likely the 13th forward, but i think the organization would prioritze protecting leipsic and goldobin over him if it came down to it

For now, sure. But there's always a group who gets sucked in by a decent start to the season.

Sutter - dorsett - granlund was the best shutdown line in the league after they shut down mcdavid for one game.

everything in moderation. If a kid is getting off the plane, running straight to the hotel room, playing fortnite until 4am. that's an issue. Going to the roxy and getting into an altercation with locals like Lucic did, well, that's an issue as well. If a kid can go to all the team dinners, and not make video games an obsession, who cares what he does during his off nights/days if its not taking away from his career/health in any way.

if its a legitimate addiction, then recommend treatment and provide assistance. i doubt its real and mdz is just throwing the term out because hes got no young wingmen at the bar to chase girls with. boeser loves fornite and look at the shape he is in, kids these days playing tired from fornite are no different than the older generation playing hungover

I would argue that the majority of people (corporations) who buy tickets really aren't that emotionally invested in the team. So who cares what some of the the fans might say.

Building a winner takes both a long term and a short term approach. Get your future top six guys playing important roles for the Comets and building some confidence. Move your scrubs for additional assets when other teams get desperate and are willing to part with something of value.

In the short term you might also lose a few extra games which helps with your draft lottery odds.

MDZ learned how to be an alpha from Giroux. Giroux already directly helped Hutton and now through his protégée MDZ, he is helping the rest of the Canucks youth.

You could make the argument that Claude Giroux is basically the Canucks captain.

lol. MDZ DM's porn stars when he isn't playing hockey. The guy is a goofball.
I personally wouldn't be spending my off nights on the road, playing video games all night, but that isn't to say that I am going to fault any kid for playing video games during his free time. Canucks twitter right now is going absolutely nuts with this fortnite stuff.
