Complete win for him. When your fans are expecting 5-6 and you get it done for 3.5 its a win... now we may end up paying more in the long run but if that's the case its because he is a stud - CoHo_to_B-Lo
Wow , some you you must be shocked.
Other fans not so much.

$3.65 per for 2 years.
Wow we are all way off. I would have thought $4+ was easily the starting point.

The only reason i am shocked if due to the reports that came out saying Sabres were at 5 and Sams agent wanted 6. I'm not one that bickers about worth like some here. |

If his contract is less than $4 million for a player who scored 42, 47, and 50 points in his last 3 years that's really impressive.
Sam is betting on himself.
Sabres have this year to jell and next year to make a real run before Sam and Casey get paid and then Dahlin the year after |

I'm definitely shocked.
But we probably shouldn't be. Just look at what kind of deals Botts gave out all summer. They were basically all 1 year "prove it" type deals. No surprise that he essentially wanted the same thing to happen with Reinhart and wasn't going to give in otherwise. |

$3.65 X 2 is unbelievable. Botts is good, damn good. It more than makes up for his flop on Blow-you.
Now the ball is in Samson's court. If he really wants to get paid, he is going to (hopefully) play like a man possessed for the next 2-years. Win-win for both the Sabres and Rhino in my opinion.

Or this is just a bridge deal, therefore less expensive, and a GREAT deal on Botts part. Just a thought. |

I'm his biggest fan and yet this deal excites me. It puts a lot of pressure on him, but in a good way. 3.65M is a very good number for the next two and saves us some wiggle room for next season cap wise. |

Nurse 3.2 x 2
Morrissey 3.15 x. 2.
They may not be perfect comparables, but they give you a sense of this years bridge deals. |

After Nurse signed the bridge, kind of figured that's where they might circle back to. Him coming to camp earlier showed me he wanted to be here and it was just negotiations going back and forth.
Will be nice to see the line I've wanted since the trade:
Skinner - Eichel - Reinhart
So ready. |

It makes you scratch your head about what the Capitals GM was doing when he inked Wilson to a long-term $5 million+ deal.

This is my top-line as well. Keep moving moving these slower/older guys down the line-up like Pommer and Okposo. If Nylander/Thompson can break through, our speed and skill set improve immensely. Plus Asplund has really impressed me so far but I imagine they'll put him in Rochester for half a season at least.

Yeah, and that Sam will still be a RFA
In 2 years if Okposo is still on this team it might be hard to re-sign Reinhart in those 2 years with Casey and Dahlin (the year after) being due contracts.
Especially if Reinhart keeps his production going from the 2nd half of last year.
If he turns into a 65-70 point player he is going to be looking for a huge payday |

I wasn't sold on Skinner being there. Thought maybe would be Sheary, but after last night, and how I saw Skinner stripping pucks and distributing...Skinner it is for me too.
I expect that with Pommer, but doubt they are going to relegate Okposo this soon given his long term contract status.
And yeah, Nylander, Thompson, Pilut, Olofsson, Asplund and Borgen could all give us some better depth this year and more options between now and next year.
Exciting times. |

There's a lot of ifs in there. For now, this is a great deal. As we've all seen, the cards could fall in a very different place two years from now and this could be a moot point. |

It's the risk with bridge deals. I'm hopeful he can reach 65 points one day, but the team around him would have to be better as well...he doesn't push the play with his own skill, but is dangerous in the o-zone at any time.
We shall see. Methinks by then Botts will have figured out a way to move guys like Okposo and even maybe Berglund for room. |
