Ah, there's that Turonna arrogance we know and hate. - sportsdataguy
Every fan base has arrogant members. I have certainly seen plenty of it from Send fans over the past 15 years (est. time since Belfour played goal in our last playoff round victory).
Regardless, anyone who says "Book it" after a post and is wrong should be forced to watch the extended version of Battlefield Earth for days on end.

I forget. Do you remember how long it has been since the Leafs have won a playoff round? Who played goal for them? - spatso
Is that relevant right now? I thought only scoreboard mattered. I forget. Do you remember what the scoreboard said last night?
It is just pre season but sometimes pre season matters. Does it matter this year or do we have to wait and see how tonight's game goes before determining that?

Serious question. What has happened with White and Brown with regards to development? Are they struggling?. I know at one point they were considered the best 2 players outside the NHL. Do they just need more time? Or was it just a bad game?

White played an okay game last night. Sens did not have a lot of structure, so many new faces and new systems being implemented with kids. They had lots of shots and good scoring chances which in itself is a change from last year.
Brown is a difficult read for me. I do not think he has the quickness necessary for the NHL game. He looks slow. But, that is often the case with big bodies. He actually played above my expectation last night. He used his body pretty effectively and he got stronger as the game went along.

Dreams for this season:
- Finish outside the bottom 5 (I think the odds that this happens are 25%)
- Trade Anderson at TDL - call up Gustavsson after and try him out.
- Trade Ceci at TDL for a few picks
- Trade Duchene mid-season/TDL for future assets, not expecting much here. Maybe we can get some B prospects
- Resign Stone or trade at TDL for a good package
Team after TDL:
Boedker - Pageau - Dzingel
Formenton - Brown - Ryan
Smith - Tierney - White
Paajarvi - Chlapik - Gaborik
Paul - Pyatt

White, Brown and Chabot were considered 3 of the best 2 players not in the NHL, by Spatso.

Stay in context. I think you can watch a team play and lose and still enjoy the entire experience as a fan. But, in the end, the only statistic that matters is the scoreboard in measuring outcomes.
My issue on "scoreboard" is not with Leaf fans. It is with Corsi proponents that would declare victories for teams with good Corsi results despite the fact they had lost the game. I don't see Corsi as representing a significant improvement over the "shots on goal" count. And, as you know, the shots on goal count does appear on the scoreboard.

Next year is a huge draft. High quality prospects forecast into the second round. I think either Anderson or Condon gets traded sooner. There is always a crunch for experienced goalies early in the season because of needs created by injury.
Duchene and Stone will get mid round #1's (or prospects) in return.

Isn't this kind of tunnel vision which focuses on final results while neglecting the underlying data that highlights the process exactly how the Sens management deluded themselves into thinking they were legitimate contenders after fluking their way into the ECF? The same narrow view you perpetuated from spring 2017 until early 2018 all while ignoring all the information you were being presented with while merrily trolling your way through the thread you abandoned once reality set in? The same mind set that precipitated into giving up what will likely be a top 3 pick for Duchene who will probably be traded for pennies on the dollar the same way Hoffman and Karlsson were?
Scoreboard matters when the final whistle blows but the underlying data matters to properly assess whether or not your results are a signal to spend the assets to make a final push or just fool's gold.

Well... He should fetch a good return.
(I;m going by the Brassard trade, not the Karlsson one)
- david22
I think he will get a big time return, I wouldnt be shocked it would be a similar Turris trade that he has an extension in place with the new team before the trade is official

These are just rumors at this point though right? He hasn't asked for a trade it's just rumors that he wont re-sign.
So likely he stays up to the deadline I would imagine.

This is exactly the point. Are you saying a team is more successful just because they have a great Corsi season? I have a good friend in Raleigh and usually get down for a visit and a hockey game every year. Their successful run to the Cup involved beating a Leaf team that played way above their regular season results and a finals victory over Edmonton that was also playing great playoff hockey.
Fans in Raleigh, Toronto and Edmonton still remember their playoff runs, Why would you want to trivialize their success?

Dorion is loading up on draft picks and prospects. My guess is he is hoping for multiple first round picks in each of the next three years. It is a process. Believe what Dorion and Melnyk say. But look closely at the exact wording because they often use deceptive language.

Peak performance of NHL forwards is in the 22-26 age range. The Sens goal is to be playoff competitive within 3 years (ambitious if you look at some teams that went an entire decade living on the fringe). So, anyone over the age of 25 today is likely to be moved either this year or next.

A lot of assets can come back on those deals, franchise can turn around pretty quickly if you hit on a few of them.
Only one I think would be tough is Anderson having an extra year on his deal at a 4.75MM cap hit. Might have to be some retained there. Returns on goalies are always surprisingly underwhelming though, might be worth just holding onto him.
