Eventually two are gonna have to go to make room for Sandstrom - bulet13
I can't imagine they sign both NHL goalies after this season, so there's one down. |

Based off what Bill has said, they might think Wilcox would be in front of him. - VladDrag
Wilcox and Friedman could both give him a run.
Basically, Brennan had his shot, and now is a career AHLer. |

Does anyone not realize how good a scorer Simmonds really is? A banged up Simmonds still scared 24 goals and missed two weeks, while being taken off the top PP later that season. He wasn’t taken off because he wasn’t good there. Nolan Patrick was also scoring there.
As Teddy KGB once said “Give him his money”. - SuperSchennBros
Dude everyone knows Simmer is good. No one is saying he isn't. But he's on the wrong side of 30 and history with power forwards and large contracts after 30 are not kind. I feel like you're always taking comments on Simmonds personally. The GM has to think about what's best for the team, not what's best for Simmonds

They really need to work on figuring out the goaltending picture IMO. I understand why Neuvirth and Elliott are here and obviously injuries have played a factor, but there are now too many goalies. Someone is going to have to push for NHL playing time between Stolarz and Lyon, while the other is probably done here after this season. |

I agree. As much as I love Simmonds and want him to be a flyer for life, if he's asking for anything more than 4yr/6m I'll carry his bags to the airport. |

Elliott and Neuvirth?
I mean, realistically, Hart should be the starter by late October at the latest, and I would expect Stolarz to have an AHL SV% around .985 or so, and Lyon is probably the best backup in the galaxy. So he can be Stolarz's backup. - jmatchett383

He's likely behind:
Provorov
Gostisbehere
AMac
Gudas
Sanheim
Myers
Hagg
Folin
Morin
That puts him 10th of the list. Obviously, Morin won't be playing for awhile, but that still means you'd need at least 2 more guys out for him to get in. So yes, he COULD fill in, but if he does, the Flyers have some major issues. - jmatchett383
Currently Morin is out long-term and AMac and Sanheim are out short term. We don’t see Gudas in a game until tonight. It would depend on who else was out. I do feel he is a better depth guy than say 70% of the league have.

Add to the fact his role could get smaller with the addition of van Riemsdyk now. If he isn't going to see any PP1 time, it might be best to move him as that alone could reduce a lot of production. |

He seems to be making an effort to be a more complete defenseman (though I suspect he will go back to a more offensive one this year for the Phantoms). Realistically though his skills don't translate to regular NHL games as the pace picks up and space is harder to find. I would hope he is nothing more than a 7th defenseman if he spends time with the Flyers. |

From what I read, Frost struggled at camp and preseason. Leier showed me last year that he's an AHLer/injury callup candidate. I haven't seen much of Rubstov or Twarynski, but I'd probably let them get acclimated to the pro game in the AHL before throwing them into an 82-game NHL season.
I'm not saying Lehtera should automatically get a roster spot, I just don't think those 4 deserve to be handed one, either. - jmatchett383
Frost was good in Rookie Camp and had a 1G, 2A night in the Rookies Game (came within an unsuccessful breakaway from a four-point night). But, yes, he struggled in the NHL camp. There were flashes of his ability at times -- on day 1, he made a ridiculous pass to Raffl through a defenseman's skates for a tap-in goal -- but he was pretty tentative and he didn't fare will in the battle drills. Also struggled in his one preseason game. |

You know things have gone off the rails in here when people are debating the merits of Jiri (frank)ing Lehtera.

Could it also have been a mental thing too? Maybe by sending him down now, considering the Flyers probably knew he faced long odds of making the team, they kind of take the worry of having to make the team off his shoulders and now he goes back to work on his game.
You don't drag it on and let him get to his junior team and get started. |

It wouldn’t be the end of the world if he got in a few games. I think he would step up.

Bardreau hasn't been able to stay healthy or he'd probably have had a shot last year. Isn't Martel a winger? - jmatchett383
At the very least, beyond The acknowledged top 8 forwards, I dress all of the following before Lehtera or Weise:
Laughton
Weal
Vorobyev
Raffl
Aube-Kubel
Leier
So at best, they are 15, 16 on my depth chart |

Wouldn’t worry about it. Lyon is already dinged up and Neuvirth will probably be in ICU by Halloween |

No one said offensive production. You can contribute in other ways such as PKing, forechecking, hell even in general skating to be a faster team. - arichardson22
Sure you did, you led off mentioning his point totals from last season. Lehtera can contribute in other ways which is why there is a good chance he makes the team. Faster doesn't automatically equal better.

I know Frost is back at juniors, he's still a better option than Lehtera imo. He's smarter, faster, offers more than Jori in almost every facet of the game.
Twarynski is been very good this camp. Strong on the puck, shows decent mobility and puck skills. Same with Rubstov. He's showing that he's not out of place.
Leier -- he works his ass off, has speed, and hos hands are not terrible. He was poor in the PK last year, but it's an area he might be able to improve given his skillset. Their effectiveness is probably a wash, its more I know what Lehtera brings to the table. - VladDrag
If that was true concerning Frost over Lehtera, Frost would still be in camp and would make the opening night roster. Frost is not ready to play in the NHL.
Leier looked last year like a career AHL player and wasn't at any point better than Lehtera was last season.

He was a terrible penalty killer in large part due to his slowness. |
