Whole different team with him

As much as Green says everyone is competing for their spot, the veterans know the score. Work hard enough not to get called out, but don’t risk injury to some hungry young scrub on the other team. The rookies also know they have very little chance, and for many of them it is their first taste of pro hockey camp. Other than a couple spots on forward Green already knows what his opening night roster will look like. Half the fan base will be complaining about one thing, the other half will be complaining about the other thing.

I hear you...just would have been nice to see a touch higher compete level from our 'regulars' in Guddy Edler Sutter and Gaunce. There should be a point in the game where their NHL skillset shows over the hard work of the Flames AHL guys...there wasn't.

Would rather see EP and Boeser and Sven with BoHo. Can Goldobin play LW? If not then I’d just switch the centers on both lines.

Leipsic is small man. It’s not like he’s a tank like Biega or Palmu.


The guy was getting man handled by the Oilers. The Flames iced a full AHL/CHL type lineup that he could skate circles around so they couldn’t catch him but a lineup with some NHL’ers can push him around.

Side note:

I noticed Pouliot made a lot of the same mistakes Hutton did the game prior. Interesting that it got swept under the rug here. He gave the Flames multiple odd man rushes trying to do too much. I was pretty annoyed watching him, especially considering the AHL/CHL/ECHL’ers he was struggling against.

Gaunce fan club took a hit too, he did nothing to impress and this was the game to do it in against a very weak lineup.


Sautner was decent though.

All good man. i probably worded that a little bit wrong.

But my point still stands that i think Goldobin is a better fit with EP than Leipsic is/could be.

Not that I really have any evidence yet, but just the difference in the way Goldy played last night shows that the see the offensive zone very similarly to EP and I'm not sure other guys on our team have that.

Hutton is massively overpaid. And awful. Pouliot is a work in progress that’s paid appropriately

Personally I think Guddy, Edler and Sutter know they are safe. I wouldn't call Gaunce a regular. To me he should be showing more compete as I don't think his spot is as guaranteed as he or others think.

I'm all for giving every fringe player a blank slate and making them earn their spots in the opening night lineup/roster. So far I've been disappointed by both Hutton/Pouliot, even though they both look like they're in better shape.


Was also hoping Gudbranson's skating would look a bit better, but he still has bad balance when skating backwards.

He played 1 decent shift, other than that, he was horrible.

For me personally, my patience is completely gone with Hutton. I’m done w him. Pouliot is newer and I haven’t had as much time to hate him. It could become possible
