Ekblad started the whole thing, Domi gave him ample time to defend himself. I think it’s simple don’t be a Richard and not fight, or if you want to be a Richard don’t expect other hockey players to not want to fight you. The entire thing played out beautifully.

Ekblad, along with every other player in the game slashes and crosschecks. I dont think you would have the same position if someone suckered Crosby for his stickwork (which I would never want to see, big fan).

I think Crosby would have at least defended himself in that situation. I think all players should act as Domi did. Would be a lot less hacking and wacking out there.

All this chatter about whether or not Ekblad deserved a smack in the mouth or not, I'd be curious to see what he'd do faced with the same situation next time. Maybe he did think it's only preseason so I'm not going to have to throw my gloves down??

Domi did give him enough time to defend himself, so I can't really say it was a sucker punch. Reminds me of the McDonough Simmonds little fracas where McDonough cross checked Simmonds in the back of the neck a few times so Simmonds paid the bill. There were people saying Simmonds cheap shotted McDonough but he didn't, McDonough just carried on like a female dog & got belted - suck poop!

really insert any other player then, the point remains the same. All players crosscheck and slash, if it's too much, a penalty is called and it doesn't escalate to someone getting suckered.

Crosby is the most popular player in the league, he's going to be used in all examples. he's won the pens 3 cups, I think you can put up with the meaningless comparisons.

Grinder just likes to trigger people. He can be intelligent when he feels like it and I usually find his posts pretty funny. All and all he's a good character to have around.

Anyone who actually watched the Pens for more than the couple of times they play their respective team would see how often Sid gets victimized and no calls are made, so your comparison is meaningless.

That's really not the point of the post. The point he's making is that everyone slashes, no one ever gets called for it, and fans usually get outraged when their player is on the receiving end and usually doesn't even notice when their player is dishing it out.

ya, little misunderstanding. Nothing to do with Crosby, was just used as an example. Sids still my favourite player to watch and wasn't calling him out in any way.

But he didn’t do that. He got close, grabbed him, threw punches while grabbing the jersey, never got the ok, and while Ekblad was looking towards the ref Domi punched him in the mouth. That’s a cheap sucker punch. And it’s a joke he’s not getting any regular season games.

There was enough scuffle time to put himself (Ekblad), in a better position, I just don't think he expected any punches to be thrown. He was wrong. I'd imagine the next guy to get in a position like that with Domi, will be ready if punches are thrown.

The "everyone slashes" point is actually very valid. The league has created a culture where players have gotten away with this and they continue to do so. If the league could crack down on these penalties I think instances like this will go down.

I don't blame Domi for standing up for his team mates. I just think the league needs to actually call slashes and crosschecks so Domi doesn't feel the need to punch a guy. Fighting in a preseason game is useless in my opinion.
