I guess, it certainly doesn't hurt. He just didn't run those routes in Miami, can't hold that against him. - Wetbandit1
You can if he’s incapable. I thought he was. Might not be the case |

Mayfield... ready
Darnold... ready
Rosen... ready
Allen... ok, maybe I’m being harsh here
I don’t think i am though
It’s gonna take time for him to learn to diagnose coverages & blitzes
Hopefully he doesn’t get killed in the meantime - jdfitz77
how is rosen ready?
honestly after this game, how is darnold ready? |

The numbers strongly suggest that he wasn't asked to run those routes, but again, just because a guy isn't a deep threat doesn't mean he can't make hay elsewhere, and just because a guy is a deep threat doesn't make him a great receiver.

If the San Jose Sharks and Erik Karlsson hope to agree to an eight-year contract extension, Pierre LeBrun said they’ll have to wait a while. He cites a little-known rule in the CBA stipulating players traded during the final year of their contracts have to wait until after the trade deadline to re-sign an eight-year deal with their new team. This year’s deadline is Feb. 25, 2019.

I gotta be honest, I never thought he'd even get back to where he is now. I figured he'd win a few tournaments here or there purely by chance and getting hot with his putter, but to be consistent like he's been, no way.
Edit: 16th on the money list despite playing less than most, 17 events. Rose, Koepka(16), and McIlroy are the only others ahead of him that have played the same or less. And all those guys have wins. |

15-31 169 yards 0TD 2INT super ready, come on man, if that was Allen's line you'd be shouting from the rooftops about how right you were.
And Rosen hasn't seen the field despite the Cards being atrocious. - Wetbandit1
1) i haven’t been using stat lines to show that Allen isn’t ready
You hear me say things like:
“He obviously can’t diagnose coverages & misses seeing wide open WRs on the regular bc of it”
“Allen can’t read when & where the blitz is coming from. And while it might look like the O-line is screwing up, in some instances it’s actually bc Allen didn’t see the blitz and adjust the protection scheme”
2) rookie QBs will have bad days... even ones who are “ready”
That’s where the learning on the job comes in
Now, i know, this is where ppl will say why isn’t Allen ready to learn on the job?
Eventually he would have to
But IN MY OPINION, he’s not there yet
And more film study & practice will help him learn how to diagnose blitzes & coverages better, so that when he is in there, he’s:
A) not getting killed
B) in a spot where he’s got a chance to actually play QB (instead of having to do QB sweeps to gain a few yards- like wtf?!)
You’ve gotta look deeper than the stat line
If u watch the games, you can see a CLEAR difference in Darnold & Allen
That doesn’t mean Darnold isn’t gonna make mistakes (lots of them)
Just like Peyton Manning made tons of mistakes as a rookie as well
Darnold is just at the point where i think he can learn from those mistakes
Allen doesn’t seem close to there yet to me
He just looks out of place & overwhelmed |

How is Rosen ready? - SABRES 89
This is also for Bandit & Homie...
Rosen was “ready” coming out of college
Idk if u guys saw him in preseason,
but he more than looked the part
Steve young has said Rosen looks ready
Heck, just about every expert says Rosen & Darnold are ready- and have been saying so since they’ve been drafted, and through the preseason, and now while Darnold has been playing and Rosen has been waiting...
they ALL are still saying those guys are ready
Obviously with Mayfield too
Funny how none of u guys could defend Allen “being ready” though
And the best u guys could come up with is questioning if Rosen or Darnold actually are
AGAIN... I’m not hating on Allen
We all knew when he was drafted that he would need plenty of time to learn BEFORE he was ready to play
Rushing him in will not do any good imo
And IT’S OK to take our time developing him
Goff sat for half the year,
and he was the #1 pick
We shouldn’t be playing Allen bc Peterman sucks
We should be playing Allen when he’s ready
If he was... he’d have started week1
He didn’t magically become ready between week1 & week2... and it was obvious
And it will be so again this week
He’s just gonna get lit up back there
And while I’m sure we will be able to point to a few nice plays he will make...
It will be bc he is super talented, and and doing so based on his pure athleticism...
NOT bc he’s actually LEARNING how to play QB in the NFL
Again...
it’s ok to take our time in developing Allen
There’s no shame in it
Do what’s best in the long run
Bc getting Allen killed so we can win 4 games instead of 2 is just dumb |

I did a fairly thorough breakdown on how/why you need to look beyond the stat lines sir
Everyone knows how Elway was one of the best QBs of all-time... right?
Now go compare his stats to a guy like Rich Gannon,
and you’ll see exactly how/why you need to look beyond just stats
And it’s especially true of young QBs,
who will struggle throughout the early going |

I dont know man.
Personally, I think Allen a) could use more time to learn more about disecting coverages, line shifts etc...no doubt, and I stated that earlier in the season, b) looks like and reports ardd that he is learning along the way...not over-whelmed and just gun-sling knee-jerk reactions.
So, yes he is grrener than desired, but also mature and developing along the way. It doesnt have to be either/or...it can be and is both IMO.
I' m good with where Allen is in the context of the reports all said he would need time to develop...while there were other more ready QB' in the draft....BUT the Bills had a choice between 2 not 4.
Honestly, I am impressed with him and think he will be fine...especially when more talent is infused to a) give him more time in the pocket and b) more seperation / larger windows to give him more options .... and, as his own development contiues.
He will be fine.
That all said ... three (3) words..

BAKER (frank)ING MAYFIELD.
Wish theycould have found a way to get him...kid is going to be THE stud of this class...and remember you heard it here first and consistently last college season. |

I read it, do you actually believe Darnold played better than his stat line last night?
I think Darnold will be a good starting NFL QB.
He looked like a rookie, tentative, indecisive and not ready.
We differ in that you don't believe Darnold "learned" anything last night,
I believe he did, while you believe he didn't.
If Josh Allen doesn't play, he isn't going to learn, same for Darnold and Mayfield. |

That’s fair to say, i guess
But i think those who feel Allen is ready to learn on the job are gonna change their minds really quick when he misses a blitz read and ends up getting hurt from a blind side hit from a free rusher bc he didn’t make the line protection adjustments
I just wanna see the guy in a better position to recognize these things BEFORE he’s thrown to the wolves
Bc him getting killed back there isn’t gonna help him develop all that much imo
As far as Mayfield goes...
believe me, i knew as well
I’m a Texas fan,
and Mayfield was basically Tom Brady to us

That’s not true
I believe Darnold will learn from the mistakes he made
I don’t believe Allen is at that point yet
Allen will learn more from playing than watching
But not if he isn’t prepared
Not if he’s overwhelmed
Film study & practice can help get him to that point imo
We all knew Allen was the least ready coming out & would need lots of time to develop
Rushing him in can have diminishing returns
It can lead to developing bad habits,
which then become pretty hard to break |
