What has happened to Sparks? - kingcong39
Note: I mistakenly read your question as "what will happen to Sparks?"
Fantastic question.
Dislosure: MakeaSavey lives in my neighbourhood, so I fully admit my emotions cloud my judgement. But...
MakeaSavey did absolutely everything asked of him last year in the NHL. He was top 3 in both gaa and sv%.
Yes, Sparx was great in the AHL. The AHL. And he has looked like poop in preseason.
My guess is we lose Sparx on waivers.
But your guess is as good as mine. |

I'd say the 2 squads are fairly even. .It's not our fault that we have too much talent to ice a true "B" team.. - Gusto
Relax, there are league requirements for these games. The Leafs B team will barely meet them, just like the Sabres last night.

True story: when I was in junior high school, my friend got his dad's tix (3) to a Leafs/Habs preseason game. His dad had great seats - corner reds at Maple Leaf Gardens - probably around row 16 or so.
I was franking jacked - was going to see Lafleur play!
Ummmm, no. Habs sent a team of absolute stiffs to Toronto. It was so bad the Leafs owner complained, and the Habs sheepishly put a couple of vets on a train to play in the game that night.
That's why the NHL has roster requirements for preseason games.
Sadly, that's the highlight of my life. |

Probably the guy they signed this summer Carter Hutton, the guy who put up a 930 save% last year, just a guess |

lol! You mean the guy who played 32 games and has never played more than 40 in his career? The guy who has been pegged as a career backup? You better hope Ullmark passes him on the depth chart or you guys will be in the mix for another lottery pick.. Y'all have delusions of grandeur! |

Excited for the line of Rodrigues-Berglund-Reinhart tonight.
I get that they're still auditioning players right now, but I wish they would have thrown Mittelstadt into Larsson's role tonight after only playing 14 minutes last night.
Gotta get his confidence up imo.
Roster cuts tomorrow, I would imagine. Roch opens camp on Monday |

This year it'll be Hutton with the majority of games, next year a 50/50 split, then the year after Ullmark the majority of games. And didn't you just call Ullmark a sieve 10 min ago? Why would we want a sieve in net, not that I think he is. And yes we will be a lottery team this year(no playoffs). It's about showing we can get out of the basement and play actual meaningful games in March. So no delusions here. Maybe stick to the Leafs. |

I think what is lost in the translation is the fact that I'm straight up trolling you guys.. I'm actually pretty stoked that the old rivalry will actually mean something again. Both teams have a lot of promise right now. But I'd be nervous about Hutton and if Ullmark makes the team it would be a waste to not start him upwards of half the games. Would be better to develop him in Roch than have him sit. IMO |

The math gets weird with Nylander holding out, but 2/3 of our top 6 is not really accurate.
Tavares, Marner, and inexplicably Hyman.
That's half.
Matthews and Marleau to go tonight.
But yeah, as a general rule/unspoken gentlemen's agreement, you always play your stronger lineup at home.
Leafs seem to be going with a pretty even split squad this year, though. Stronger defence last night, but #1 goalie tonight. - Atomic Wedgie
I see a lot of Leaf fans diss Hyman. True, he is not Tavares or Matthews but he does a lot of "dirty work" along the boards in order for your stars to get the puck. Most of all, you get the 100% effort from the guy.

Ullmark's had plenty of time in the AHL. Letting them compete for time in net is the right move. There's certainly some risk. Neither are proven starters. There's reason to think that at least one of them can provide average goaltending, but it's a risk, for sure.

Gusto..not saying what so ever that he would be the same but Hasek was a backup prior to coming to Buffalo. You never know... |

Yep...I agree, but if he can't score 30 he's crap. I've lived through the Jonas Hoglund's on the 1st line, so I'm cutting him some slack, but wouldn't mind Hyman moving down the lineup a bit. |

It's the Babcock philosophy: two skilled guys + one grinder to go get the puck and give it to the two skilled guys.
I'm actually OK with it now. With the Leafs having their best centre depth in 25 years, I like the idea of spreading the scoring talent over three lines. Not fair to put Kadri with dog poop - he's proven he can generate offence.
