Do I want them to start a first-year pro in Hart, even as accomplished as his junior career was? Of course not.

But at some point, if he's healthy and playing well in the preseason, and you were the one who brought back Mr. Glass and knew Brian Elliott had a significant injury last year, people can't just sit there and say "Well, you know, we can't play the young guy"

Because to be honest, an outcome of Hart starting was as likely as Neuvirth being healthy, in my mind

The health of the vets and the play of this young man is forcing the Flyers hand. It may not be a matter of want. We might have to play him.

I still don’t understand why we re-signed Neuvirth.

A head scratcher by Hexy. Especially the 2 year part

It was a bad call then, and there is nothing that has happened with Neuvirth that anyone didn't see coming

Then they're just kicking the can down the road -- seriously. Think about what we're talking about here.

Five months after playing the Spokane Chiefs and the Seattle Thunderbirds, we're gonna ask a 20-year-old to do what? Deliver what should be a 100-point team 35-40 points? 17-20 wins?

In the Metropolitan Division? Against two teams that have won the last three Stanley Cups? Another which features a two-time Vezina winner?

Because Mr. Glass can't stay healthy. He won't be available. We have to plan for it like that.

They need another guy. They can't ask a 20-year-old to backstop the Philadelphia Flyers. That's crazy. This franchise and fanbase has eaten alive Sean Burke and John Vanbiesbrouck and on and on...they have to let this kid develop

I think they’ll be able to find someone on waivers towards the end of the preseason here. They just better not give Elliot a heavy workload...he won’t hold up

They didn't want to expose Stolarz in the expansions draft.

I'm just looking at who they may be able to pick up on waivers, and there's not a ton. It would be a guy like JF Berube, Hutchinson, Jack Campbell, etc. Then, when everyone is healthy, you now have 6 goalies for 4 spots.

Honestly, I think they may approach Mason.

I understand the talk about Nuevirth and the possibility that if all the other 4 guys are healthy, he's the logical guy to be moved, but I wonder if hextall would move a d man if he indeed thinks Myers is ready for a top 6 role?

probably depends on how serious the injuries are to these guys... hextall sure did sour on Mason....or at least it seemed that way. do you realistically think he could come back?

With the way Doug Wilson has been schooling Eastern Conference GMs lately, no thanks.

I'd rather they move Gudas and Neuvirth to Montreal, they could probably talk Bergevin into giving us Drouin somehow. Plus, Neuvirth, Price, and Weber could become press box buddies.

Hextall might give him away for free if he has faith in Lyon, Stolarz, or wants to rush Hart. Ask yourself why you want to move Neuvirth and then ask if a GM would be confident that he can rely on Nuevirth to stay healthy.
- MJL

Again, last time, 1.25 cap hit with 50% retained, last year of deal, getting him for next to nothing. Not really that much of a risk for another GM and, if he is healthy, he's still better than most NHL/AHL tweeners which is the 3rd option for some teams if they lose one of their top 2 guys.

Why would Hextall want to move him? Easy, if the other 4 are healthy, he's the logical guy to move. You certainly aren't moving Hart and Stolarz may still have some potential. If you expect to go with Hart next season and Elliott is healthy, you may want to hang on to him and see if he'll sign a one year extension. He'd be a good backup/partner for Hart in 19-20. And finally, I'd rather keep Lyon around over Neuvirth as there is at least some chance that Lyon could be a serviceable backup for you at some point. Neuvirth is not getting re-signed, nor is he going to miraculously lead you to a Cup in 2019. If all are healthy, he's the logical guy to get rid of.

Exactly -- they need someone capable of playing 35 games and actually winning half of them, stone cold

That slot has to get them 15-20 wins

I think that approaching Mason is around Plan G on the Flyers list of options...but I think they're on Plan E right now.

Whether or not he'd come back is a debate. But no one seems willing to deal with him, which I think speaks volumes.

Depends. He’s in his last year so if I have a goalie out with a 4-6 week or so injury and don’t have much depth at the position, with 50% retention I’d take a shot. I’d only be offering future considerations for him anyway and the most I’d give up is a 7th if he plays a certain amount of games.

I think to be traded he will have to come back and play some games and prove he can stay healthy.....

I believe the Shooter Tutor is still un-signed. Guy has limited mobility but he seems to never get hurt at least.

can't say never...considering how these guys are dropping like flies I guess. it is interesting that some teams appear to be in need of a back up and Mason is still out there.

Agreed, but I think he could go down on a rehab assignment to LHV, play a couple games and as long as looked competent and got through them in one piece, it would probably be enough.
