Who asked for this?
Can't the Flyers just borrow the Philly Phanatic?
He's going to be out of work in about a week until next Spring anyway. |

They should just hire Hartnell! He was a fan favourite and he could throw gloves at everyone, Flyers fans would eat it up! This thing is terrifying, what we’re rhey thinking?! |

Just hiring Hartnell to drink beer and hang out at the Bud Light Pavilion would have been better than this. |

Then they're just kicking the can down the road -- seriously. Think about what we're talking about here.
Five months after playing the Spokane Chiefs and the Seattle Thunderbirds, we're gonna ask a 20-year-old to do what? Deliver what should be a 100-point team 35-40 points? 17-20 wins?
In the Metropolitan Division? Against two teams that have won the last three Stanley Cups? Another which features a two-time Vezina winner?
Because Mr. Glass can't stay healthy. He won't be available. We have to plan for it like that.
They need another guy. They can't ask a 20-year-old to backstop the Philadelphia Flyers. That's crazy. This franchise and fanbase has eaten alive Sean Burke and John Vanbiesbrouck and on and on...they have to let this kid develop - AllInForFlyers
I agree 100%. |

A head scratcher by Hexy. Especially the 2 year part - Just5
It really wasn't. At the time they were moving on from Mason and Hextall did not want to go into the off season with no goaltenders signed. Neuvirth had that leverage to turn it into 2 years. Now you can blame Hextall for not having enough foresight to let it get to that situation but once they were there, he was in a tough spot. |

They also had to have 1 goalie under contract to expose in the expansion draft. At that point, Stolarz was the only one who fit the bill, so Neuvirth was resigned and was able to use that leverage to make it a 2 year deal. |

Again, last time, 1.25 cap hit with 50% retained, last year of deal, getting him for next to nothing. Not really that much of a risk for another GM and, if he is healthy, he's still better than most NHL/AHL tweeners which is the 3rd option for some teams if they lose one of their top 2 guys.
Why would Hextall want to move him? Easy, if the other 4 are healthy, he's the logical guy to move. You certainly aren't moving Hart and Stolarz may still have some potential. If you expect to go with Hart next season and Elliott is healthy, you may want to hang on to him and see if he'll sign a one year extension. He'd be a good backup/partner for Hart in 19-20. And finally, I'd rather keep Lyon around over Neuvirth as there is at least some chance that Lyon could be a serviceable backup for you at some point. Neuvirth is not getting re-signed, nor is he going to miraculously lead you to a Cup in 2019. If all are healthy, he's the logical guy to get rid of. - BiggE
Again last time, it's not about cap hit or cost of acquiring him. It's about a GM acquiring him and trusting him as a backup when the team trading him is doing so because they can't rely on him to be healthy. If he is a risk to the Flyers as a backup, why isn't he to another team?
I didn't ask or inquire or doubt why the Flyers would want to trade him. Only why would another team want him. |
