A few random thoughts from your pal Scabeh:
Kotkaniemi might make the team after all. I was on team "send him back to the AHL/Finland" but he's been very impressive. He might make things interesting and put Domi back on the wing which makes every line stronger.
Hudon and Lehkonen are off to a great start, things are looking good for them and they should both have a good season imo.
I'm not sure how you could justify not putting Ouellet in the lineup ahead of Schlemko or Benn at this point. Even without the 2 goals, he's been very good all camp.
I really like what Chaput and Peca bring to the table.... makes me dread the day we'll see Andrew Shaw come back.
End of the line for McCarron, he'll be traded for a bag of pucks or lost through waiver or just sent to the AHL.... the man simply cannot take that step forward and become a reliable NHL player..... Scherbak will stay for now but.... he's not far from getting sent elsewhere either.
Day and night between this preseason and the last one, if they play with this kind of intensity every game.... we might not be a strong team but we'll be one pretty annoying to play against... I'm starting to think we might surprise a few people out there. #Optobus. |

i think we'll see Kotkaniemi get a small taste early on but i just cannot see him competing against NHLers at this point. he really is scrawny.

I agree, he'll get pushed around alot if he stays.
His progression since june is what is making me doubt my own initial position of sending him back to finland.
Maybe, in the end, staying and learning and training with the pros in the NHL might make him learn even more and learn it faster...
It's an interesting decision... without any bad answers imo.... we got ourselves a very good young player gentlemen. |

Yes he can.
And it might be the best scenario, with him continuing learning NA hockey with Bouchard and getting a callup if needed/justified. |

seems like that would be the no-brainer scenario. although i guess there are contract implications if he does? starts eating into his ELC? |

I believe it does.
Which doesn't make it a "perfect" scenario either. |

If he plays in Montreal, yes
If he plays in Laval, I think his contract slides one year. It was like that for Scherbak who played in the AHL at 19.

I haven't seen any of the preseason games yet, is Scherbak floating, making dumb decisions or just plain looking lost? Lots of people just not impressed by him and I am curious why. I remember last year he always looked pretty good on the puck but never even noticed him otherwise.
Wouldn't it be best to just let Kotkaniemi just develop more in Finland, its not like this team is a playoff threat at the moment?

Scherbak has lacked intensity and has a bad habit of causing turnovers in the offensive/neutral zone.
The talent is there but with so many guys playing hard and well for a job on the team.... he's looked out of place most of the time.
He'll stay with the team but will need to show alot more to be a regular. |

I wouldn't say floating, but there are some areas of the game where he's struggling. Scherbak has talent, but he's not winning his battles for the puck. The only times you notice him is during the powerplay. Not saying he's slow, but he doesn't have an explosive acceleration to say the least. |
